Amazing deal, great quality, superb service

by Andy from MN USA on 2009-06-05
I purchased my PLV-Z4 from another online retailer and I have been absolutely pleased with the performance and bulb life. I've been running it for almost 3 years now and my only issue was that the lamp ballast blew out, but because of their 3 year warranty, I had it out and back within a week at no charge.I would recommend this projector to ANYONE, as long as they have a viewing room that tolerates the 1000 lumens - it's not a sunlight or ambient light friendly lumen level, but it's awesome in a dark theatre...=)

Good Projector

by P. Chong from Mesa, AZ USA on 2007-07-25
I had a Panasonic PT-AE100 before so I was coming from a 480p projector to 720p. I cannot say how nice it is to have the lens shift and be able to place the projector off center and away. The automatic lens cover is great so you don't have to worry about misplacing a lens cap. There are ports on the projector that fit an air duster tube so you can dust the panels if you should get a speck or bit of dust on a panel. Also, it is quieter than the comparable Epson 720p projector which one of my friends has. On a side note, I have not seen any kind of banding artifacts that I've read other projectors occasionally have. I've had it for over a year and I'm still very happy with it and it's still working like a champ.I prefer using this to my 42" 1080p LCD - the colors are much better as well as overall picture quality. I use this primarily at home in the living room for Bluray, HD DVD, and HDTV. On occasion, I take it to friends' houses for movies by the pool (I bring a portable projection screen) or video games.

Well worth the money!!

When my old big screen decided to die, I decided I wanted to go with the full movie theatre experience. After about 2 months of research I decided upon the Sanyo Z4 and what a great purchase it was. I have the projector roughly 14 ft from the 121" HC Screen. The image quality is fantastic using the HDMI connection. I have it hooked up to the DishHD and a upconverting Sony dvd player. If you search around you can find great prices on HDMI cables that aren't the ridiculous price monster ones.

Have the biggest TV of all your friends!

I've owned a Z4 for about a year now and am still blown away by it. How can you not love a crystal clear 9' across picture? I have about 700 hours on the original bulb and it's still going strong. Here's some things you'll want to consider before buying a front projector, though:- You MUST be able to control the lighting in the room a front projector is used in. You don't need a dedicated theater room like a basement or anything. I use mine in my living room and the drapes are enough. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to watch in a fully illuminated room like you can with a traditional television set. The darker the room, the better the picture. Ambient light is a huge factor.- Your picture will only be as good as the signal you put into it. You'll want to invest in component cables(if not better). I used a composite cable at first. There's a huge difference with this big of a picture. Cost didn't sound like a big deal to me, until I realized I'd need 25' of component cable to go from the source to the projector. Painful, but worth it. Also, take a look at your DVD/Cable service. Again, your picture is only as good as it's input. That said, I love this thing. There're a few concessions to be made with this setup, but I think it's worth it. A screen this size combined with a kicking audio system is truly an experience!

Sanyo wins my business

by S. Clark from Shoreline, Wa United States on 2006-12-14
I have had this projector for about a year, and as others have mentioned the image is great. It looks far nicer than any of the projectors I saw at local stores (Magnolia HiFi, Fry's, Bestbuy, Circuit City, etc). The colors are bright and defined, the image is sharp. The lens throw is very handy. The image isn't washed out like older LCD or in store units. The black levels, while not as good as a plasma, are still plenty good.I use it mainly for Movies and an Xbox 360. The image controls it offers are great, to switch from highly vibrant colors good for Video games and back to more realistic colors for movies.I project approximately a 100" screen and sit about 10' from the screen. At this point I am just far enough away to not see pixels. Any closer and you can see them however. My room is not completely dark during the day either. I have blackout curtains in the windows, but some light leaks in and my walls are white, so even in moderately lit rooms the projector is plenty bright. My projector did fry itself recently, but I have a feeling that is more the fault of my homes wiring. After having the projector Warranty repaired by Sanyo, I am thoroughly impressed. They provided me a Fedex tracking number to ship the projector to them next day at their expense. I had *my* projector back and working two days later after replacing the power supply, lamp ballast and a fan. That is one of the fastest turn arounds I've ever seen, second only to warranty support that ships a replacement ahead of receiving the broken unit. I will gladly do and recommend business to any company that treats their customers that well. There are better projectors out now, but for the money & free replacement lamp this is an exceptional deal still. The only thing I could ask for at this point is 1080p, but 720p is great nonetheless.

Two years this December

by Robert Tashjian from Paducah, KY on 2010-05-25
I purchased this unit in December of 2008 and have been more than pleased with it. The first thing I did was look for a calibration guide on-line so it would be perfect. After doing that I tweaked it a little bit so it fit my eye for optimal enjoyment. I have thoroughly enjoyed this product and would purchase another IF I HAD TO! I was reluctant to write a review, because knowing my luck that is when the problems will begin. Thus far I have had zero complaints. I have a dedicated home theater room in my basement with no ambient light so I can't comment on anything other than a dark setting. I will say that to do this product justice you should suck it up and buy a descent screen. I got a 120" silver frame permanent mounted screen from overstock and it made the projector. Shining it on the wall was pretty crappy so if your going to throw down some change on this you better have some extra for a screen. The picture quality is still excellent and of course all my buddies and folks who drop by are very impressed with it. I mounted mine to the ceiling and watch it at least 4 times a week for several hours at a time. 1080p is very impressive and even 720p football games and 1080i direct tv movies are phenomenal. I certainly recommend this product for a budget 1080p projector.......it makes me wonder how much better those "expensive" ones really are. If you are concerned about the projector being loud, don't be with this product. I am amazed at how quiet this is. The only thing "loud" or audible to be more specific is when the lens cover slides open and closed when turning on and off the projector. The fan is very quiet and the unit does not run hot. So if you want a good projector to enjoy movies or tv at home in a dark environment then this is the product for you.

Excellent Quality and Excellent Value

by Nelson from Colorado on 2010-02-03
I owned a Viewsonic XGA projector before. It took three tries to get a working one without overheating. You can read about it from my past review. Amazon has been amazing to work with. When it was time to replace the Viewsonic for a higher resolution projector to show photos, this Sanyo 1080P projector represented the best value. I was not disappointed. It worked perfectly from day one. It was a little big to carry it around and did not come with a case. Eventually I found a Gator mixer case from B&H that fits the projector nicely whenever I need to transport it.I bought this project in June 2009 and just got around to write a review. I know it has been 7 months but I can honestly say that this projector has been fantastic every time I used it. It was normally connected to a laptop with a DVI to HDMI cable and driven at its native resolution of 1920x1080. The picture was sharp and the color was rich on a 100" (80x60)screen. The fan noise is so low even at the normal mode. One time when I was showing the slides out of town, I forgot my DVI cable and had to use a VGA cable. The resolution was lower and the picture was not as sharp. If you want the best quality, use a HDMI cable.I am surprised to see this projector held its value well. The price has not dropped since I bought it. It actually went up a bit.

Sanyo Delivers at a Lower Price

by Drew from Cleveland, OH USA on 2010-01-10
A few years ago I bought a new home and it had an unfinished basement area. I was trying to figure out what to do with this space. I thought gameroom, pool table, then thought about the noise and getting a little old for games. I saw a projector on TV and decided to buy one. I first bought an INFOCUS projector that did the job for a few years. People would be blown away when they would come over. I decided to upgrade and I was shopping for about a year until I made up my mind to try the Sanyo. I read all the reviews for projectors and looked at all the prices from all the major players. I am very pleased with this projector with the price and performance. The Sanyo fills my 103" screen with crystal clear images, football games and movies in 1080p are simply amazing. Also, we have been buying 3D movies that are so fun to watch on the big screen. I go to people's houses that have the 60" or 55" LCD TV's, no comparison their jaws hit the floor when they come over. The side adjustments that move the picture up and down or side to side on this projector have really made it easy when trying to center the picture. I installed the projector myself and very pleased. Just an FYI, there has not been any issue with the Sanyo and I would purchase again. Projectors are not for everyone, you need to have the space, power them up and let them cool down and the bulbs do go bad and do cost to replace them.

Big projector for big results

by Maverick Brandless from on 2009-12-18
Ah, I just happen to come accross this projector looking for a LED lit types. We've owned this one for over ayear and we're quite satisfied with it. We replaced our Mitsubishi 1500HC after it started making a loud whining sound, later finding that the color wheel was deteriorating. Word to the wise - get a warrenty when purchasing equipment like this since they're quite fragile, we were able to get the value of an equal model (1600HC) so we used that towards this Sanyo lamp.Well here's the good:Awesome color quality and light output. Even in our livingroom, we can see images quite clearly as you can see that another owner has taken. It produces enough light for photo capture. It's very quiet and has a nifty automatic lens door - really nice. It also has inputs out the wazoo. We use a switch box so we don't need all of them, however if you're planning to load all your inputs, make sure you secure the weight on something else other than the projector jacks. No color wheel to break later (like the DLP we had). Compared the the 1500HC, it's better in all aspects except....And the bad:Turns out with LCD projectors the contrast sucks. Well, not the contrast, you don't get complete black. It's more like a dark gray. The Mistubishi was a DLP and we could get complete black. So there's a little weight if you're deciding weather to get an LCD or DLP projector. LCD's also require filter cleaning periodically, and occationaly you have to blow lint off of the LCD surfaces (if that were to happen, we haven't had to yet), another thing I didn't have to do with the DLP. Also it has a higher power consumption to give it it's awesome light and picture. Was it worth it? Is being able to see your image in partial darkness worth it? Does full 1080p in your face quality with 100"+ screen size worth it? (see costomer image)I recommend getting a projector over having to buy an LCD panel TV for the shear fact you get "BIG" images for the fraction of the price if you're trying to get a big screen.I had to give it 4 instead of 5 because of the price and the fact it doesn't get complete black. That's still pretty good.

SIMPLY AWESOME!

by Dave from USA on 2009-11-20
I have a 1080P and a 720P HD Plasma in my house as well as another 720P projector so ordering this thing was a no brainer when building my dedicated theater. I was however a bit concerned that other positive reviews on here were a bit overstated and the unit may not have been put through the level of scrutiny I was about to unleash on this unit after I opened and unpacked it from the box. Out of box experience: This unit is packed very nice and it's very simple to grasp what needs to go where. Install: Not a ton of setup here just hang it from the ceiling change the pic format to now be upside right (ceiling setting) and adjust focus, angle and size/ throw. The unit does not have a keystone adjuster but this is easily remedied by tilting/ angling the unit upwards higher than normal and adjusting the vertical lens adjuster/ control back down to center the pic your screen. Operation: The unit is way quite with hardly any noise at all, it does not seem to run as hot or as loud as my 720P unit. Very nice backlit remote is well laid out with all the right quick buttons on it. On Screen Menu is easy for even the non-audiophiles and adjustments are easy as well. Quality: I am blown away that this thing only costs what it did from Amazon, this unit has made me re-think all of my pre-order reservations and jitters. Very good build quality and it has an auto lens door making it even more of bonus, plenty of input options here as well. Overall: I love this unit and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking at obtaining a projector, the performance for price just can't be matched. Every audiophile / A/V friend that has stopped by does not want to leave after minutes of viewing this unit's epic picture and many have said this setup has destroyed their (now) sub-par HD home viewing. I am using the Elite 120" fixed CineWhite screen also bought here (link - Elite Screens EzFrame Fixed Frame Projection Screen, 16:9 Aspect Ratio - 120in. (Cine White)) and between this unit and the screen the viewing is every bit as good as my 1080P 55" HD Plasma running Blu Ray or HD cable. I do not work for Amazon, Sanyo or Elite and I have no reason for telling you this unit is simply "it" other than I hope my review helps you to get with the program and buy this unit if you're in the market for one - I'm kicking myself for not doing so sooner. Thank you Sanyo for hitting the mark on this one, the performance you offer here and the price is on point!Cons: My original unit had to be replaced with another new unit, the first one had some bulb/ IC issues (I think) giving off a burning smell and powering down on its own with a fail indication. HOWEVER I would NOT trade this new unit for anything PERIOD!!!! The exchange with Amazon was painless minus a few days for the new exchange and now I am as blown away as all my friends every time I turn it on. No issues with this new replacement unit whatsoever. Lets face it this is technology we are talking about and everything you can buy retail will never have a 100% perfect quality control factor or an MTBF rating that is flawless - everything made has defects on some level. A majority of the time companies get it right and sometimes parts may fail on one in every so many units its just part of life. Sanyo has produced a great machine here and I encourage you to buy it. .
