Theater Lighting

Rope lighting for film?

We remodeled our basement into a theater and put up molding in the ceiling with a slot to put the rope in the light (so it looks like the molding is illuminated from behind). The problem is that the molding is fairly thin, so we are looking for the rope lighting is very thin! Hard to find! We are looking for 1 / 4 inches. We amber. We have tried every store possible and now we are waiting there somewhere in Internet. Please help! Thanks! :)

I do not know of any small rope lighting, but you may want to see small LED lights on a string (for example, they have in holidays). Lights are also called RICE. Try google & LED lights, Christmas, etc, there are many sites. Be sure to test you for any heat output as not have a fire.

Great Remote Horrible Documentation

by Griffey from IND on 2010-08-13
This remote works as promised the lack of documentation is what was frustrating. You need to go into lighting set up to get the rf to work with your components even if you do not use the lighting feature. You also have to make sure components are set up to be controlled via omni link is selected via the home page on the software. That was horrible and took a lot of time until I emailed customer service and got an answer in 30 mins. This remote is almost identical to the harmony 890 pro and uses the same software for less than $100 this is a steal. RF is the only way to go as this replaced my harmony 880 that only uses IR.

It does everything and more

by mURF4BZ from on 2010-07-29
This remote does it all. When you recieve it, it controls NOTHING, but after you create an account, tell it what your AV, TV, DVD etc items and model numbers are, it downloads them into the MONSTER and with the click of ONE button you are watching or listening to anything you want. Controls over 200 different models, in any room in house, even through walls, and closed stereo cabnets. No more fumbling with remotes. Any problems, cutomer support is great. It is manually programed if you want, and can learn comands from original remote if you have it, if not it will help you figure it out.

Monster Remote MCC AVL 300 barely adequate

by T-Rex from on 2010-07-02
Relatively easy to set up using a PC, the performance of the remote has been erratic. After setup, it worked as programmed. Over a matter of a few days however, performance deteriorated. Although using the Help function usually resolves the issue, it gets tedious. One should be able to select an activity and be done with the remote but this is not the case. Users must often follow up to complete portions of the activity chosen. Once the activity is set up, the other functions of the remote such as volume increases, decreases, muting, etc., work as they should and all functionality of the displaced remote controls are emulated on this remote. That is expected so overall, the Monster MCC AVL 300 is below average in performance.

I really wanted to like this remote, but in the end I kept the Harmony 900

by Christopher L. Phillips from Kansas City on 2010-06-24
I wanted a RF remote b/c my equipment is inside an entertainment center. I bought the Monster AVR300 and the Harmony 900, and here's my revew of them. The first thing I noticed was how easy the setup was with the Harmony remote. I was completely done, wihout much customization, within 15 minutes, and using the RF functionality. Everythng worked great. A couple of days later, the AVR300 was delivered. The setup for the AVR300 was much more difficult, and much less intuitive than setting up the 900. I had to perform the setup twice and I'm still not sure what I did the second time that caused things to start working, especially the RF functionality.I tried both remotes over the next week, and noticed that the Harmony always responded when I was within range. BTW, the range is no where near the 100 feet that they claim (for either remote)! The Monster didn't respond at least half of the time, or sometimes the delay would mess everything up. I would press buttons while I was 10 feet from the omnilink and nothing would happen. Then 5 seconds later, half of the buttons I pushed would be executed. There are other likes and dislikes about this remote compared to the Harmony 900, but what I really wanted was something that was reliable. That's where the Harmony shined and the Monster failed. As I said in my title, I really, really, really wanted to like this remote. I would have saved $275.00 to keep this remote, but in the end I decided the reliability (in my tests) of the Harmony was worth the additional cost. I hope I made the right choice in the long run.

Good but not great remote compared to Harmony One

by B. AKANA from Kapolei, HI on 2010-06-21
Okay, I'll try to keep this short and simple as I can but I'll probably fail...I had a Logitech Harmony One. Loved it. Broke it by accident. Needed a replacement. Didn't want to spend too much for it.I came across the Monster MCC-AVL300-S on Amazon. Very cheap compared to MSRP. Saw reviews were okay but not great. Most complained about ease of use. That didn't deter me since I'm kind of a techy guy.Okay, so I chanced it and bought the Monster. First impressions ... nice packaging, feels substantial, looks good! And it was cheap compared to the Harmony One.Then the initial setup began. I can see how people are complaining about ease of use.Installing the software was straightforward but I ran into other problems. The Monster software may not like your anti-virus/firewall software, even if you allow the Monster software access through your firewall. I have to disable my firewall everytime I use the Monster software or I will end up with random Monster software freezes. I use McAfee. Yes I know it sucks. Don't tell me about it.The accounts you create can become corrupted (like when I created a new account and the Monster software froze on me during the initial setup). You'll end up receiving weird errors. Just create a new account and start over.Monster uses the same software as Logitech but it has its own look and feel. It isn't as intuitive as Logitech's but it is relatively similiar. Some people say Monster's software is slower than Logitech. I disagree. They both are equally slow.Other comparisons-Pros: * I like the (8) physical buttons for the customized display screen rather than using Logitech's (6) touch screen buttons. I have fat thumbs and always ended up pressing the wrong button using the Harmony One. Much easier to use the customized buttons compared to Logitech. * Yup, 8 customized buttons on the display compared to Harmony One's 6 customized buttons. * Has the ability to use RF or infrared signals. * Can control lights and switches (although I don't use it).Cons: * Like everyone says, the remote charger sucks. You have to carefully place and align the remote into the little charger for it to charge, otherwise it's not doing anything. * The Monster remote is nowhere near as ergonomic as Logitech's. I especially loathe the close placement of the numerical keys. The 12 keys feel like one huge key to me. * The little directional joystick I feel is prone to breakage one day. I'd rather have a directional pad. * While the display can handle 8 customized buttons, the display itself is ugly. The resolution is very low compared to the Harmony One and most commands shown are abbreviated because it can usually only display 4 to 5 characters per line. * Monster doesn't update it's software nearly as often as Logitech. In the end, the Monster remote does pretty much everything the Logitech Harmony One can and more. I have over 12 devices and they are all controlled the same way as the Logitech did. And for the price I paid, almost half off the Logitech, that is a pretty good deal!I'd give it a 5-star rating but I have to deduct a star for the ergonomics, the charger, the ugly display and the buggy software. Why only one star? Because this remote control is CHEAP compared to the Harmony One.A 4-star rating it is!

Not worth the money!!!

by Cheryl L. Esponge from Georgia on 2010-03-07
After much research I bought this product, however we were very disappointed!! I cant say anything positive about the remote. The screen graphics/type was very poor quality (low res). The online setup was a nice concept and "easy", but labor intensive. The remote settings did not work consistently from day to day.Whenever you made a change to the setup, it was a 2 step process to update and you had to swicth cables back and forth. Even small changes took a very long time to update. I returned it and bought a Harmony 900 which works perfect!!!

High-end protection

by beetleruss from Louisville, Kentucky United States on 2010-08-04
This surge protector is serious protection. 2520 joules of protection so it's suitable for protecting an expensive high def TV. The plug also has an automatic shutdown of power once the protector reaches the end of life to protect your expensive equipment. It also utilizes new V3 technology which gives better heat dissipation and longer protector life. The spacing concern that another reviewer mentioned hasn't been a problem for me because I have no large transformer block plugs associated with my TV.(I do have a small transformer plug for an amplified antenna, however.) I like the smaller size because my protector shows.

Plugs are too close together

by Ryan P. Ridge from Homer, AK United States on 2010-06-20
I bought this at a local store, and I am extremely disappointed. The plugs are so close together, I can't plug more than 4 things in. I'm not even trying to plug in big adapters, just some 2-prong power cords!

Awesome!

by Montana Ro from NW Montana on 2010-08-28
This was so easy to install and I love the fact that I could put away my bulky stereo system. I wouldn't pay this kind of money for 15 year led lights, but that is definitely a pretty cool plus. Most importantly though, the sound is very good and the system takes up virtually no space at all. What an innovative product! I have not had any of the static problems that one or two other people had. Maybe it has to do with other issues like wiring or music source??? Bottom line this product works great for me, it's worth every penny!

Interesting idea, mediocre execution

by Joseph Adler from Mountain View, CA on 2010-08-20
I've had the Klipsch LightSpeaker System for about 3 months now. It's a strange, eccentric product that is hard to recommend, and doesn't work well.I was very disappointed with the physical design of the speakers. The speaker/light units may install easily in some light sockets, but they didn't install properly in mine. My ceiling fixtures contained an angle bracket that made it impossible to mount without a socket extender (I bought this one: Leviton 2005 Medium-Medium Base, One-Piece, Adapters/Extensions, Incandescent, Glazed Porcelain Lampholder, White). With the socket extender, I was able to mount the units, but they extended 3/4" below the ceiling. Klipsch should consider slimming down these light/speaker units, and providing adapters to adjust the height.I was also disappointed by the need for two boxes (the base unit and remote). Most users of this system are going to use it with an iPod, iPhone, or the equivalent. It seem silly to require three different devices to play music remotely; why not just include one device that connects directly to the audio input? Or why not just add bluetooth to the speakers? Or alternately, why not add an iPod connector directly to the base station? Wireless speakers just aren't that useful if you have to connect your music source to a wired device. You'll get better sound if you just hook speakers right up to the music device, at a much lower cost. After I got the system setup, the devices worked as well as you'd expect. I learned that ceiling cavities can have strange acoustic properties. In my ceiling, the speakers produce somewhat mid-bass intense music. Klipsch doesn't provide an elegant way to tune the sound, so it can be difficult to get good sound quality. The light feature is nice, but LED lights aren't that bright. Compared to a 60 watt bulb, you'll find that the LEDs are noticeably dimmer. In a room with other light sources, this is probably OK, but it's not perfect. Additionally, one of the light fixtures stopped working for us after a month of use.So, in short, I can't recommend this product. It's an interesting concept, but the execution is lousy. It's obvious that this is a first generation, experimental product. But the basic idea just doesn't make enough sense. If you really want LED light bulbs, you can but them for much less than $250 a piece. You can also buy a really good speaker system to go with a portable music device for less money.

Pretty cool idea!

by atmj from Rochester, NY USA on 2010-06-07
The first thing that struck me about this product is the quality of it's manufacture. These speakers were solid and well made. Below I will address the various information that is important to know. PACKAGING AND INSTRUCTIONS: As with any product what we first see is the packaging it comes in. This speaker system was no exception. An expensive product, should be well packed and these speakers were in separate boxes within the main box, well cushioned. The various components were also well packed and obvious to find. The overall box when you open it, the first thing you see is the setup information. This card was the full length of the box and succinctly told you the steps you needed to complete installation. I thought this was all well done. Under that was the user's manual that if you had issues you could refer to. INSTALLATION: First of all you need to be sure you have the right spot to install these. They go into 5 or 6" recessed lighting tubes. The manufacturers provided two size flanges that could go on the end of the speaker/lights that would work with either of these sizes. One thing we found while installing these, is you could actually not get them properly seated in the light socket(not deep enough) and they would not work. It was the user's manual that alerted me to this and we resolved the issue. Another thing I found was, we could not use the metal arms spread out to stabilize the speaker in the recessed outlet, as the spread was too far. We had to keep them pulled in. I liked the fact that the instructions warned me upfront that most recessed lighting fixtures had adjustable depths. I didn't know that. In telling me that I knew enough to adjust them and that is what took to get the speakers installed deep enough. You have to finesse this a bit and get the proper mix of deep enough while holding the flange flush to the ceiling and properly engaged to work. It took us about an hour to get both speakers properly installed. It was somewhat fatiguing as these speaker/lights have some heft to them. But, not a major problem. Once installed properly the main unit quickly detected the speakers and they worked well. You can control the volume of the speakers and the brightness of the lights. You also have the abililty to choose two inputs. There is also a remote provided and this mimicked the controls on the base unit. Handy if you are not easily able to reach the base unit. USAGE: Once we had them up and synched to the base unit, everything worked fine. We are now planning on having these hook both to the radio as well as an ipod and you can do this as there are two inputs as well as the appropriate cables. I was pleased with the sound quality, but I'm no audiophile. Since the speakers were small and not only behind the lights but the light lens a more discerning listener might have concerns. I did not. RANGE: I have noticed that these speakers do not have much in the way of bass, so your music can sound a bit tinny. Not surprising due to their size.OTHER POINTS: Since we used these units in our kitchen on recessed lights over the countertop, which has 4 lights, in order to work you need to have that circuit on. This means the two lights that don't have the speakers in them need to be on all the time, that we use the speakers. The lights in the speakers can be turned off independently. At this time, I don't think that is a problem, as I kept the ones over the primary work area as non-speakered lights. The speakers have convex covers on the LED light inside. This makes the light they shine down a bit different than the lights in the recesses. I find this light is more diffuse. Another reason why I did not put these lights over the primary work area. I would have to make it very bright to be the the most useful. The LED lights can get bright enough, but it seemed almost too bright in order to get the proper coverage. Too bad there was not a concave lens option for these speaker/lights to address this. SUMMARY: All in all we are pleased with this system. I will write more as we use it more.

Adequate quality for TV audio

by Never pay retail from PUYALLUP, WA United States on 2010-06-04
I thought these would just screw in to a light bulb socket. There was a bit more to it than that. In fact the directions looked a bit daunting but turned out to be fairly simple once we got into it. Pairing the speaker with the base unit was a snap once I found the button (tiny black button on the back near the power switch). The remote works flawlessly from the distance I require. I have one speaker installed in my kitchen. It is SO COOL to not have to crank up the sound on the TV in the family room to be able to hear it while I'm cooking. We plan to create some sort of speaker box to use the second speaker out on our deck so my husband can hear when he is BBQing. I do not plan to use these speakers for music. I am by no means an audiophile, but even to me music sounds crappy over these. For my purposes though, they completely met my needs.Note: It's designed so you can turn the light on and off with the remote too, if you just wanted the sound but not light. This doesn't do me any good since my installed location has numerous can lights all on one wall switch which has to be ON for the sound to work. But I'm rarely cooking in the dark so that shortcoming doesn't effect my use either!

Impressive Sound

by Linda Painchaud-Steinman from MA, USA on 2010-05-28
I never thought I'd be able to install this system, because I'm kind of phobic about installing ANYTHING, but this system is as simple as it gets.Just be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions, and I think you'll find it goof-proof. I put one LightSpeaker in the kitchen, and one in the family room (the two rooms are right next to each other), and the sound from the speakers is impressive--very crisp and clear. The LED lighting is also good --very bright.I'll just add that I think this system would also make a great gift!Recommended.
