Starter Kit including 2 x HA03 & HA07

The HomeSettings lighting control starter kit manages the illumination system for your entire home. Choose Intermatic HomeSettings Products for Affordable Home Control Reliable safety, security and convenience are no longer luxuries reserved for millionaires and tech-heads. Intermatic is a leader in developing a reliable home control system with a reasonable price point, exceptional effectiveness and real ease-of-use that integrates seamlessly into any household. About this Lighting Control Starter Kit With the HomeSettings lighting control starter kit, you can experience all the benefits of home automation for a fraction of the cost. This kit gets you started on Z-Wave lighting control, so you can manage multiple lights and appliances in and around your home. By using Radio Frequency (RF) technology, Z-Wave components require no wiring, and since each module includes a repeater function, adding more modules to your Z-Wave network actually improves the system's reliability. The Z-Wave Starter Kit includes a master controller and two lamp modules, everything you'll need to start your radio-frequency network. In case of emergency, the master remote's ALL ON/ALL OFF buttons can warn would-be intruders away, and the integrated timing functions offer a variety of options. Set the Astronomic feature and you'll never have to reset the timer for day-to-day changes in sunrise and sunset times, or take advantage of multiple time options. These options include programming possibilities that will set your lights all week, 5 days, weekends, or individual days. Or, before you leave on vacation, activate the random timing option to give your home a lived-in look. There's even an automatic Daylight Savings Time function. The master remote is easy to set up, with an attractive design which blends into any decor; you can set it on a table or mount it on a wall, whichever is most convenient. It controls up to 12 channels at once, and each channel controls up to 16 devices. HomeSettings uses advanced Z-Wave technology -- a wireless mesh network that delivers reliable control of countless applications throughout your home. Great Product & Outstanding Price

by orickoh from on 2010-09-06
I needed an additional lamp module to expand the Home Steeings system I've had in my motorhome for over two years now. I found this kit with two lamp modules AND a new controller for the same price as each lamp module lists for! Fast shipping and works great. I use this to control a six station indirect rope lighting system in the coach.

Good value kit, jury out on Z-wave

by Neil from WA from REDMOND, WA, US on 2010-05-01
This is a very cost effective way to get into home automation. There are cheaper remote plug ins, but they probably wont be expandable to more devices, nor dim, nor have a timer in the controller. Z-wave also has PC based solutions if you want to have computer controlled lighting. For the Intermatic specifically, I asked the manufacturer about support for dimmable CFLs with these adapters and they said no, only rated for traditional bulbs, so if you only have CFL, even dimmable, it's probably safest to get the heavy duty adapters - they will only turn on/off though.I'm having some issues with Z-wave based screw in adapters - not all lights seem to turn on/off reliably so i'm wondering about whether Insteon might be a better overall solution as this can use the house wiring as well as radio.

Worth only because of low price...

by A. Balyan from Somewhere in between nowhere, OH on 2010-04-05
(Was planning for Zwave based home automation) After seeing the price drop of this set, ordered this as well as Intermatic HA09C Home Settings Wireless Handy Remote Control. Here, I am going to focus on Intermatic HA101K Home Settings Wireless Kit only,+ Price, difficult to beat. + Complete set to start the automation + Aesthetically, not bad. + Works (will discuss more in -), and good for starting the home automation project. + Works with CFL, but I am keeping the highest level (no dimming effect, but CFL are usually not for dimming)- Old DST setting. This is deal breaker for me. Although it seems just 3-weeks diff, but its almost impossible to change any setting with this remote (which is acting as master for whole Z-wave system). - Horrible, just useless, instructions. Back to first negative. Combine these 2, I dont have words. - Unreliable (OK, my plug in is behind sofa, but I am using the master remote from 3 feet to max 12 feet distance). Sometimes, you need to press few times and sometimes work with single press. Sometimes you need long press and few times, a light touch works. - Difficult to program. Not sure how, my master is programmed to switch on/off with single button (ON). Its almost impossible to change the settings, and I dont have patience to change.Baseline is, good to try and for plugins. I will be not recommend master.

Setup too hard for most users

by P. Jacobson from Minneapolis, MN on 2009-02-22
I'm a mechanical engineer with many decades of experience with control systems. I found the programming to be cumbersome, absolutely non-intuitive, and complex. I was able to do it, however. Problem is, unless you are going to fiddle with programming quite often, you won't remember how to do it and you'll have to use the manual every time. Kind of defeats the purpose - I want to "set it and forget it" and only adjust things once in awhile. If you are looking for this kind of functionality, save your money. I would not recommend this product for most people. Simple mechanical or electronic timers on individual lights are much easier, and less expensive.I also found that the lights I programmed worked fine for a few days, then started coming on and off at odd times, without anyone making any programming changes. Sometimes it didn't work at all. There's just me and my wife, no kids to play with it, and my wife has left it alone. And this unit is way too complicated for my smart cats to figure out.

just an "ok" replacement for x-10 system

by Mark T. Twain from Fanwood, NJ United States on 2008-10-13
isn't exactly 100% reliable so don't get your hopes up. i found it to be on par with the x-10 system as far as reliability. i was planning on upgrading my x-10 system to zwave, but haven't been completely impressed yet.

Not for use with sensitive electronic devices

by Alan P. from Somewhere in California on 2010-07-22
One might expect, as I did, this device to operate as a switch, meaning that on means on and off means off, right? Not the case here. This device in the off position still manages to let through minimal amounts of voltage which with some electronic devices is just enough to flash the LED's and make them beep, or sound off as if they were about to turn on.

delay in turn on time

by Andrew D. Adams from NY on 2010-01-10
I have the complete system, these have a slight delay turning on. Sometimes I have to hold the controller down for 5=8 sec. and their only 10 feet away in the same room?

Works fine wit my logitech harmony remote control

by Dino Flores from on 2009-10-30
great product, somewhat bulky, ha the power inlet on the side not in front making it accupy less space (depth) behind your appliance. I have three of these devices. I can easily turn all my appliances on and of with this Zwave conroller in conjunction with my Logitech Z-wave enabled remote control

Clicks when it needs to

by Michael P. White from Chippewa Falls, WI on 2009-09-23
The HA02C does what it's supposed to - when it receives a z-wave signal from a controler, it makes a click, and turns on the the appliance at the other end.I'm using these to control CF bulb lamps - and these work like a champ in that respect. I haven't noticed any flicker due to voltage leakage in the off state - although I doubt that there is any (I haven't measured it.)Unfortunately, there is only one one AC plug on it, and it's fairly large. Other than that, it works as advertised.

Excellent response time

by Rob Mason from Brookhaven, MS USA on 2009-08-09
This module has excellent response time. I now have more than 10 of these around the house, mostly to control lamps that have a CFL (Compact Fluorescent) light bulb. I had heard that Intermatic was getting out of the Z-Wave business - I hope not because these are great modules!

Not so good

by Brian M. from Wyoming, MI on 2010-02-28
I had this unit set up with two motion sensors and three water sensors. I received way too many error messages with this unit. First, the two motion sensors were in unheated areas and I would get false low battery warnings every couple of hours whenever the tempature was below 15 degrees outside. There was no way to get around this. Second, I would have to manually set off my water sensors in my basement about once every two or three weeks or the system would not think they are there anymore and give me false sensor error messages every three hours or so. I'm sure in some applications this system works great but it did not work very good at all for me.

JUNK! ONE TO AVOID at all costs!

by Shawn Brown from Tacoma, WA, USA on 2009-02-11
This is the absolute biggest waste of money I've ever made for anything electronic! To start with, I had to buy EIGHT extra door triggers at $20 each! The sensors were about the only things that programmed quite easily! Then came the real nightmare: after I programmed my own PIN, I was able to do a few programming things. But within a few steps, my PIN was no longer valid. After several attempts to re-enter my PIN, I finally had to call the place I bought it from (Home Security Store: another place to avoid!) and was walked through the steps to clear the memory and re-enter my PIN. It worked while I was on the phone! Yippee! But as soon as I hung up and tried to program a few more features, it refused to accept my PIN again! I got so frustrated that I tossed it across the room into a wall and shattered it into pieces and sent an e-mail to where I got it stating my disappointment. Their response was "that is, after all, our cheaper model" and is not as good as this or that model for more money!NEVER got this unit to work, and would NEVER suggest even my worst enemy buys one! But if you DO, SAVE YOUR DOOR/WINDOW TRIGGERS for the next SkyLink alarm you might buy because even though the seller told me they would NOT work with the more expensive model of alarm and I would have to buy the $32 triggers, THEY DO WORK!!! And the seller refused to post this fact in my review of this alarm dialer.

Good cheap security system

by J. Rayburn from iowa on 2009-01-01
System will call you if any of the sensors are triggered. You can add multiple different sensors to the system like temperature and water/flood sensors. This a good product to keep an eye on your house. The alarm is very loud. Sensors works through walls and doors with no problems.

Over $250 Wasted

by David R. Randall from Arlington, VA on 2008-12-06
So, I bought the Kit, a number of additional sensors, and even the Repeater/Range Extender. With everything sitting on a table it works. So I programmed everything and installed it. Everything seemed to work fine. Just a bit sluggish. After 24 hours I had to reprogram ALL the sensors. After another 24 hours and nothing worked again. And so all I get now is a constant voice alert that my sensors have all failed. And it won't let me go into programing mode anymore. So... Since I threw out all the boxes, and installed everything with double stick tape, It's not returnable.Stay away for this product, far away. Needs a rating of 0, but the selection doesn't go that low.On a technical side, I took apart one of the door sensors and it uses the same technology and frequencies as a lot of Chinese technology. IE: "eBay Strobe Triggers". You can expect a lot of interference with these.

Award-Winning Z-Wave Wireless Technology At the heart of the HomeRemote Pro System is Z-Wave wireless "mesh" technology, an award-winning wireless standard for home automation. Unlike traditional remote technologies that rely on infrared signals, Z-Wave is not affected by walls or other barriers, and it offers two-way communication, giving you confirmation that your commands were received and executed. With Z-Wave, the guesswork and finger-crossing is taken out of the equation. Because each "module" or HomeRemote Pro accessory acts as a repeater that extends the distance of the Z-Wave signals, with a few easily installed and strategically placed HomeRemote Pro accessories, your entire home can be covered in a matter of minutes without any hard-wiring or special installation. Easy Set Up: No Special Tools or Wiring Required Setting up a HomeRemote Pro Monitoring System up couldn't be easier. Once you connect the Pro Internet Gateway to your router, you log into the HomeRemote Pro Web site, where you can customize your HomeRemote Pro System by naming the rooms in your home. (You can also personalize your HomeRemote Pro Web page with photos of yourself and other custom touches.) Then it's just a matter of plugging accessories into outlets throughout your home and adding them to your system. The "installation" of HomeRemote Pro accessories is as easy as plugging in one of the several HomeRemote Pro modules into available electrical outlets. Once the modules, which are about the size of typical home appliance timers, are connected, you simply plug your lamp or appliance into it. The modules let you control appliances remotely (you can schedule them, or turn them on or off on demand), and they will also act as "repeaters" that effectively extend your home's Z-Wave wireless network. You're now ready to control your home through a browser from anywhere in the world. And by adding your cell phone number to your account settings, your Internet-enabled cell phone can be used to control your home and even stream video of particular rooms. Note: HomeRemote Pro has two levels of services, basic and pro. Some features mentioned above require a pro-level service. Click here to see a comparison chart of the differences in features and capabilities between the basic and pro-level services. Other HomeRemote Pro Features The HomeRemote Pro System offers several customization and monitoring features that give you the ultimate in control and oversight of your home. Using your cell phone, you can access your HomeRemote-connected appliances and surveillance equipment from anywhere. View larger. The system's Scene/Scheduler feature allows you to create a rule that applies to a group of different appliances. For example, instead of turning all your lights off one by one from your cell phone as you're leaving your house, you can set a Scene called "All Lights Off" that turns off all your lights with the press of a button, or turns them off on schedule you've created. The Alerts and Notifications feature send email and text (SMS) message alerts to designated recipients whenever a specific event, such as the opening of a door, occurs within a room. Device Linking allows one module or sensor to trigger other modules to turn on or off. Opening a door, for instance, could trigger all the lights in your home to turn on. And to help you keep an eye on your property, Activity Logs let you view recent and past events in your home if you suspect suspicious activity, or if you simply want to monitor your home while you're away. The optional Pro Video Camera (l) and Pro Video Camera with Night Vision (r) lets you monitor your home from anywhere in the world. View larger. Expanding your HomeRemote Pro System The HomeRemote Pro System can be customized to grow as your needs grow. New modules and sensors can be added at anytime. You can add additional HomeRemote Pro Wireless Door Sensors, Motion Detectors, Appliance Modules and Lighting Modules, or specialty products, such as window shades, thermostats, garage door openers, keyless door locks, light switches, and outdoor lighting modules from other HomeRemote Pro compatible manufacturers. The HomeRemote Pro System is compatible with all products featuring the award-winning Z-Wave technology logo. Just not reliable enough for ongoing remote use

by Paul P. Lavallee from Seattle, WA United States on 2009-11-09
I've had the system installed for a little over a year now and have given up - it's just too flaky.Probably OK if you are at home and can unplug it every once in a while to force a reboot and re-association with the Z-wave devices, but just not robust enough if you are away for more than a week or two. What happens after a while is either a) the gateway doesn't respond or b) it no longer sees the devices. It would probably help if one could reboot it remotely via the browser, but that isn't possible. When it works it works fine, but the web browser interface is too limiting and at any one time there is probably a 40-50% probability that remote control over the web will work.

No work-No support

by Deeann M. Schunneman from texas on 2009-08-20
I purchased the gateway and three lamp modules-setup is easy and quick. From there on this is a piece of junk. Tech support from these people is non existant. The only way to get it back running is to reset the gateway and detect the modules-a little hard to do from a remote location. They need to change the name from home remote pro to remote control from your computor when you are home. Dont buy it.

Dead at about 7 months, RMA easy, online setup difficult. When it works, it works well.

by NJV from LA, CA USA on 2009-08-05
I bought this kit in January 2009 and it was dead at just under 8 months. RMA process was easy and smooth. When I decided to sign-up for a pro-level, the replacement and the server couldn't talk to each other and am struggling to get it to work with help of tech support and Crayon Interface (the provider). So, if this works for you out of the box (which it's more likely to), then it's a great gadget. If you however run into a trouble, it may be difficult to get it resolved by phone/email.Minor issue: if you have DHCP in your network and you want to use the local web interface, it won't use the IP address you entered during the setup; instead using DHCP. So, it can't use static IP when there is a DHCP server. You will have to configure your DHCP server to give it the same IP if you want to be able to book mark it, etc.Minor issue but annoying: the GW's own web page on IE8 is a little flakey. The status of a device may be red (off) or green (on) even though in reality is the opposite. In control page, clicking on the device's On/Off doesn't just turn it On/Off. You need to hit the key too.

Just what i needed!

by JK from on 2008-07-24
i dont know what the other reviews are talking about but this product was just what i needed. i wanted something to control my lights and therostat while i wasn't home and this did the trick. i even installed it myself and i'm not that technical. cell phone works fine (blackberry) and i'm thinking about buying the HRPC2 night vision wireless camera next. no bugs or hitches so far and i've had the product for a month. i was hesitant at first from seeing the one bad review but i must disagree completely with it now.

Barely functional, alpha release

by F. Richards from on 2008-07-22
The firmware on the gateway is at an alpha level of quality. You can create schedules and access your zwave network through a web portal (which connects to the gateway), but device-linking, event-notifications and cell-phone access do not work. Neither does Hawking's customer/technical support.Note that you *may* be able to use any IP video camera with this product, but you will probably have to log directly into the gateway through your LAN (admin/1234) and by-pass the gomoshi website account. But I haven't tried installing a camera, just my Leviton Vizia network. Given my experience so far, I won't be spending any more money to find out what else about this product does not work.

Security and Automation that you can DIY

by A. Owens from on 2010-06-16
My career is in IT so I am no starnged to electronics and tinkering. I decided to bite off a security system, but being the nerd I am I also wanted to play with some automation. This is one of teh few controllers that can truly do almost anything and you don't need a bunch of PCs and external relays to make it work. Although, if that's what you are into it will do that as well. HAI is professional level hardware, but they have made documentation and online training very accesible and the help files that come with the dealer software are excellent. Take you time to spec out your system and if you have a knack for simple electronics you will LOVE this gear. This is my first security system and I did 2 keypads, 2 thermostats, motion sensors, glass break sensors, door sensors, smoke detectors, garage door opener, etc. I would highly recomend this system to anyone.

Does not come with a controller

by Daniel Fishman from Beverly, MA United States on 2010-08-19
If you're not an expert in Zwave technology, you may think you're buying a remote control AND an outlet, like hundreds of others on the market. Not so... This one has no controller with it, you have to buy one separately for around $50. If you already have the appropriate remote carry on -- but if you were planning to hook this up to a ZWave remote that learns from other remotes, as I was, you're screwed. There is no remote. To be fair, in the fine print, it does not say that a remote is included, but to me, that would be like selling a car without a spare tire -- people's expectations are set by the existing market.

Good outdoor zwave plug

by MJM from New Orleans, LA on 2010-06-05
This is a good device at a good price the only downside is does not store scene info in the device

lousy range

by Soap Opera from Miami, USA on 2009-09-18
I have not been able to get the zwave signal to travel 30 feet from an outside zwave outlet to this outlet, the range on this product is terrible.

Works fine

by John MacDougall from West Coast on 2009-09-12
This is the second identical outdoor module I have bought. Both seem to work fine. I had the first one out in the rain, snow and ice controlling Christmas lights last winter and it worked without problem. They both seems a little tempermental during programming, but so have all the other z-wave modules I have bought. This one is a bargain.

It Works

by -TMcN- from Snohomish, WA United States on 2009-09-07
This does exactly what it claims to, and does it reliably. Sensitivity (to RF Z-Wave signals) is good, adding it to the network was trivial, the power connector fits under the outdoor plug-cover well, it has a button for local control and a status LED. I've been using it for several months and it has worked perfectly. There's really not much more you could want from it.

Good zWave recepticle

by MJM from New Orleans, LA on 2010-06-05
This receptacle works great, the only downside is it does NOT store scene information in the device

Works very well but ............plan carefully before designing a system

by Ryan Hanan from Oakland, CA USA on 2009-04-25
I have installed a lot of Z-Wave devices. The Intermatic line works very well. The only consideration in designing a system is to remember that the "wired" modules seem to transmit a slightly shorter range than the "plug in" modules. I have also had problems with the wired in units not working well when they are behind a bed or dresser or next to a large mirror like those on mirrored closet doors. The plug in modules work better behind objects or in rooms with bad range or heavy obstructions like huge mirrors or metal. In open area spaces where there are no large obstructions they work extremely well. I recommend to my clients and to anyone purchasing these to use the "wired in" modules where you can actually see the plug and where you can not see the plug (like behind a sofa or a tv) to use the "plug in" modules. The wired in modules look very streamlined and very much improve aesthetics.

On or off, that's all you get

by Robert Muszynski from NM on 2009-04-13
If you purchase the portable plugin version of this you get dimmer control. With this, you can only turn the lights on or off. It's not mentioned in the description, how dissappointing.Stick with the plugins. They're kinda ugly looking but they work great.

Pleasantly Surprised

by Steve from Chicago, IL on 2008-11-05
I purchased a group (5) of HA01C receptacles to allow remote control of my lighting fixtures in my primary living space. My family resides in a mid-1920's structure and unfortunately some of the rooms were not wired for switched overhead lighting. To prevent from having to cut into the walls and install new conduit, we decided to utilize ZWave technology to provide us with switched control of our lighting. We could have opted to use an appliance module versus the receptacles and skipped electrical installation altogether but we desired a cleaner look. The HA01C is a fairly straightforward installation if you are comfortable replacing standard household receptacles and switches. The rear of the unit is fully sealed, however 3 leads are provided allowing the connection of your hot, neutral and ground wires. I have an older electrical circuit and had to use my conduit as the ground and this has not affected performance in any way.One item to be aware of is the size and depth of the receptacle. If you are retro-fitting an existing single gang box, installation is much simpler if your box is deeper than the standard. The receptacle fills almost the entire cavity of a standard size box and things get snug once you add in a couple of wire nuts. If you have the ability to swap out your box for a deeper model I suggest doing so ahead of time.To utilize the ZWave functionality of these devices you must also have a Master Controller; as this was our initial test of the technology we opted for the simple Intermatic HA07C though many others are available (www.zwaveproducts.com) The controller walks you through adding the modules to the network and from there operation is refreshingly simple.Aesthetically speaking the outlets look like any other, and require a simple Decora faceplate (not included.) There is a small green LED that remains on when the outlets are live but this was not a concern for our application. Finally, there is an audible "click" when the outlet switches your device on or off; the sound is no louder than switching off a floor lamp but you'll want to be aware that it exists.
