Are these the best speakers to get if you want a tv sound work at home?

http://cgi.ebay.com/BOSE-Lifestyle-V30-Speaker-System-Life-Style-NIB-Black_W0QQitemZ200370997979QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item2ea70acadb&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 i want my living room sound like the movie theater when watching Blu-Ray

No. You've been hearing a lot of marketing too. Before you buy Bose - try to find two positive comments. (A little bit of a trick, because Bose sue anybody who tries to review their speakers. Search for "Bose vs Consumer Reports "for details). The real secret to a good home experience is a good subwoofer. Something like a cylinder or series woofers SVS Box. The kids who also SVS USS praises Research subwoofers. Now you add five speakers monitor a company's style real speakers (Definitive Technology, Paradigm, B & W, Polk, Energy, ... lots) then correctly position the speakers, the level of adjustment with a SPL meter from Radio Shack and approaches the sound quality cinema. We're talking about $ 1,000 - $ 2,000 here. (One of the great secrets of HT - do not need full range tower speakers for music or gauge a great film experience.) To do better - you would be getting the treatment room and room acoustics setting. This is dooable, but much more expensive.

Question about home theater subwoofers, amplifier sub inputs?

I am thinking of buying a new active subwoofer for my home entertainment system. I noticed that they all seem to fall into two different categories as amplifier to the inputs of the submarine is concerned: 1. A set of left and right RCA inputs (and sometimes a set of products as well.) 2. RCA inputs, plus a single LFE input, for recipients who have a dedicated subwoofer output. My receiver has the "subwoofer" cat, but my current subwoofer is only left and right RCA inputs, not the LFE input. So I've been using an RCA splitter cable that runs in my receiver. My question is: Is there a difference between quality sound using a configuration like mine, as opposed to buying one that has the LFE input? Is my sound quality suffered due to the use of a subwoofer old who has only left RCA and cats right?

We are now connected properly. You are not missing anything, because all the management frequencies is being handled by the receiver. I would use the adapter (or try not - if there is a drop in the secondary level, keep it).

The sub performs beautifully under heavy bass load, especially once its broken in. I have the sub in a small room (12x15), so it fills it pretty nicely. If you're not near the opposing corner from the sub then the bass isn't tremendously powerful but its presence is definitely still there. The box feels substantial and looks good, it doesn't feel cheap. Overall I'm impressed and pleased with the purchase. Its a great deal and adds a lot to your sound pallet.

Great Sound for the price

by Jonathan Harrison from Virginia on 2010-08-10
I got this sub from Onkyo 7.1 surround sound speakers. I would recommend this for sub for anyone looking for good sound with out braking the bank. The whole setup sounds great! I highly recommend getting a nice high quality cable to connect the sub to your receiver. The one that came with mine wasn't long enough for me to use plus it wasn't well shielded where I did notice some interference with other cables near it.This has plenty of power for using it in large rooms. Great Sound with out Distortion with my Yamaha RX1700 Receiver. After reading some of the other reviews I see some people mention rattling but I have not had it happen with this one.

OLD Audiophile

by Larry Wolford from Washington State on 2010-07-25
Just a a note about the Onkyo SKW-204: The factory has choosen the dubious "Dynamic" power rating. Using the old engineer's "rule of thumb:" 60% of input power for the true RMS output power, I would guess this is really about 80 watts RMS. But this is a good low powered sub for acoustical music. I have the Polk PSW10 in another room, which I also use for acoustical music and consider it a better $$ deal. Remembering that it takes 10 times the power to produce a doubling of sound pressure(10 decibles), I would consider the Polk too. Neither sub will give you an "F-18 Hornet 'Fly by' with the after burner on" in a large room, but it is still an XLNT low powered sub. ENJOY !!

After my JBL 250 watt took a dive I decided to try this Onkyo since I have an Onkyo receiver. Best chance I ever took. My room is 18 x 25 and the woofer doesn't have a problem... Highly recommend.

Happy

by Fredrik Andersson from The United States of America on 2010-09-01
The remote is nothing to write home about. It is very small and you do have to aim it just right. Also I don't like the Vizio LED indicators on the front of the unit, hard to read. Those are the CONS. However there are still enough PROS to warrant a Five Star rating. It sounds great and it worked without issue right out of the box. Paring of the the subwoofer happened more or less automatically. I'm using it with a Panasonic 42 Plasma and the improvement in sound fidelity is significant. The wireless subwoofer is very cool and although it does not go down very far (compared to my SVS sub that impacts my breathing when Sauron drops the ring)it is pretty impressive in the freq range it does support and it adds a lot to the experience, especially when watching action oriented movies. As far surround goes I cannot say i really noticed any real "simulated" surround effect but for the money I did not expect it either. The system goes as loud as I would ever want in our living room and on the whole I'm very satisfied and would consider other Vizio products based on the performance of this unit.Definitely value for money.

don't buy it

by R. Conklin from on 2010-08-14
1. The sound is not discernibly better than the built-in speakers in my Samsung 50" DLP. The only real difference is that music plays twice as loud as speech, so you have to keep continually adjusting the volume. 2. The cheesy little remote has a true range (despite what the specs say) of about 8-10 feet. If you sit farther than that from your set, you'll get a lot of exercise. 3. The optical input port broke after a couple of months so it will no longer hold the cable. I'm getting rid of this thing. In my other house I have a Sony system, which works MUCH better.

Not worth it.

by Ronald Monzel from Lady lake, Florida on 2010-08-08
This unit did not work out of the box. I was on the phone with two different customer service techs and they did not know what they were doing. One wanted to replace my TV and the other one wanted me to go and buy a new cable. Then they were going to have home repair come out. Then they were going to have it shipped back and send me a new one. I was so confused that I just put it back in the box and returned it to the store for a refund. Customer service was so bad that I bought a Samsung sound bar and it is a much better unit and it worked out of the box. The Samsung has a lot more features and has a much better remote.GOODBYE VIZIO.

Well worth it!

by Donald L. Vanhandel from Socorro, NM on 2010-07-15
Very happy with this. Not true surround as other reviews say but it's to be expected, however the sound quality is WAY better than the tinny sounds from my 32" Vizio HDTV. As an aside, I think manufacturers make their stock TV speakers sound this way so people will have to buy products such as this but I'm very happy with the setup. I bought a refurbished one and it's just as good as a new one, a minor scratch is all that it had. DEFINATELY buy the sound bar with the wireless subwoofer, you will be glad you did!

Died, then it died

by W. Handy from Dallas, TX USA on 2010-07-03
First, the sub-woofer wouldn't work. Never worked. The directions to set it up (yes, I read them) were very simple. It just didn't work. Never heard a peep from the sub-woofer. So I just used the bar for a while. OK sound - obviously a little tinny, but not bad. Better than the TV sound. The tiny, easy-to-lose remote is a nuisance and is cheap - doesn't work well; has to be aimed very precisely, and the buttons are balky. But one day, within a few months of buying the system, I was adjusting the sound, and...blip! Nothing. It just died. Not a sound from it since. Trash.

Major upgrade

by MEK from on 2010-09-01
I have tinkered with a few companion systems since buying my Panasonic Plasma about 4 yrs ago but I never found one that really improved the sound in relation to the TV speakers. I received my system yesterday and was blown away by the sound that was produced by just two speakers. The dialogue is clear and crisp and the Bass is all you want. Both cable and DVD media have been heard and performed very well. The set up was very easy and since you can use your existing remote to control volume, muting, and power, it doesn't get much easier. This is not a surround bar so don't mistake it as such but for a 2.1 channel stereo product it is very effective. If you are in the market for a speaker enhancement package, look no further.

Marginal Product

by J. Diamond from USA on 2010-08-20
I bought the Boston Acoustics TVEEM20B after extensive research, and a hands on look at our local Best Buy. Compared to other options out there, it is a well built product. The soundbar comes well packaged, albeit the vendor shipped the product in it's original packaging, and didn't even bother to tape the box closed... So after a quick inventory I started to put the system together. I have a Sony Bravia, the sound from the television is ok, hollow, but ok. I wanted the soundbar to help fill the room. The connection was simple, two ports (RCA I think) connected the unit to the television (the Sony Bravia has R/L audio out ports). Synching with the wireless subwoofer was simple, and other than verifying that the two units were on the same channel required no effort on my part. After getting it all hooked up, I turned it on, and was disappointed to find that the soundbar really isn't louder than my television speakers. I played with the volume on the soundbar, turned it all the way up, etc., but no, the soundbar speakers are really just on par or maybe slightly better than those of the television. Of course the soundbar and television work in conjunction with each other, so rather than 2 speakers playing at x decibel, I now have 4 playing at x decibel. In fairness, the subwoofer really helps improve the quality of the sound, making for a much richer fuller audio experience.I'm an anti-Ipod guy, so I didn't want anything with a built in IPOD dock. However, it would have been nice if the manufacturer had included an AUX input port for my MP3 player.I'm in the service, so I've been looking for a system short of surround sound to minimize that aspect of pain associated with moving. I was just hoping for more I guess, with probably unrealistic expectations. I'd be happy with the system if I'd paid less that $100 for it, but at $258 (AUG2010), I wouldn't make the same purchase again.

Boston Acoustics TVEEM20B TVee Model 20 Home Entertainment System (Black)

by T. Olson from USA on 2010-08-08
This sound bar is awesome. Great sound and easy to setup. The subwoofer is wireless and can be placed any where in the same room. The price is great for the best sound compared to other units that are $200 to $300 more. Great purchase. I will buy another one for my other tvs.

Perfect for us

by Joe Mirenna from Dane County, Wisconsin on 2010-05-12
After reviewing a lot of soundbars, it was one great feature that pushed me to the Boston Acoustics TVEEM20B: the ability of the system to learn your remote commands (volume and mute). We have Dish programming and I did not want to have another remote or give up the great remote from Dish (with its skip forward and backward features to easily skip through TV commercials). Not only did the system learn the remote commands easily, the thing sounds great. We paired it with a new Toshiba 55 inch LED TV. Originally, we were impressed that the TV sounded not that bad, once I had tweaked the default settings to eliminate the enhanced bass (which made it sound hollow). But, after watching a music concert we thought the sound could improve. Tested the TVEEM20B on that same concert and it sounded great. The room is large, 18' x 18' with a high ceiling. No problem filling the room with sound. And the adjustable wireless woofer can be hidden easily as well. The whole thing set up in minutes.

It's just OK.

by E. Boss from SW Hurricaneville, FL on 2010-03-16
I recieved this as a Chistmas gift so I've had it for three months now. It is paired with a Samsung 52" LCD. While the soundbar sounds far better than the TV speakers, it is not a good replacement if you plan on listening to music a little loud. When I play music, I like to rock out. I turn the volume up to the point where it's loud but not distorted. After about 5-10 minutes, the bass module cuts out from what I'm guessing is excessive heat. Oh, well. I'm probably expecting too much out of a $250 dollar unit. It does work great for television, just don't expect a home theater experience. It is only a two channel stereo device.

Awesome cost bennefit

by Eduardo Andrade from Brasilia, Brasil on 2010-04-19
These speakers deliver an impressive sound comparing to the price they cost. Installation is very easy due to wires colors that fit colors on the back of the receiver (TX-SR 607). Wires length are perfect. The package contained everything I needed in order to make a perfect installation in my environment.

Totally awesome sound for reasonable money

by Steven Pleau from Lexington, MA USA on 2010-04-01
Got the speakers in extremely short order from the retailer. Best set of speakers i have ever owned. Love them and the sound quality is fantastic. beautiful to look at (although i have them all hidden well) and more fun to listen to the set was easy to set up with great color coded wiring all included in the package. the sub woofer kicks butt!! true theater experience my family and friends have been blown away too. would purchase them again and glad i did not spend the money on the Bose speakers i was thinking about ... this is just as good for me and less than half the cost (nothing against Bose ... i just like saving my money)! have always liked onkyo, just never purchased them before. i love my movies even better now that these speakers are combined with my Pioneer 7:1 receiver, Sharp 60" LCD TV, and Sharp blu ray player. very nice combination and match-up for an excellent movie watching experience. recommended the 5:1 550 onkyo speakers to a colleague who is looking for some for her setup at home. solid speakers at excellent price.

Pretty good for the money

by Mel Hinshaw from on 2010-02-01
I bought this Onkyo system after reading a few comparisons and ratings putting it at or near the top of Home Theater systems in this price range. I agree that this is a good reasonably priced system. I got rid of my old speaker system when I bought this one. The old system had fairly cheap tower speakers. Although the overall quality of sound is better, the new system is volume limited compared to the larger speakers. Other than total volume, I'm very happy with the purchase.

AMAZING SPEAKERS

by S. mcadam from windsor, Canada on 2009-06-27
I am so happy with these speakers. I am using them with an ONKYO 606 receiver, and they pound. The clarity is amazing, and the sub is unreal. The price is amazing, and they look stylish. I was looking for a speaker that was small like a bose speaker, and I imagined these speakers to be a little smaller, they are about 13 inches high, and 6 inches wide. With a universal mount they fit perfectly on my wall. Happy customer. Amazons shipping was great too.

Great Product

by wrb129 from on 2010-09-06
Great product that is surprisingly well built (and heavy). It was exactly what I needed to finish off my home theater room. As others have indicated, you have to be patient and careful putting it all together as it is extremely cramped in the back when you have everything connected.

Nice clean look to home theater install

by William Gilmyers from Southern California on 2010-08-07
Good wall plate. Need to use with banana plugs. Makes for a good clean install of your home theater.

It's worth the effort

by D. Diggs from Victorville, CA USA on 2010-07-11
Like stated in many of the other reviews, getting the speaker wire configured on the back side is a bit of a hassle, but manageable. I chose to deal with this complexity by removing all of the connections (which is easy enough to do) and starting at the bottom and working your my way up. This allowed for ample space to allow my not too skinny fingers to tighten the connections with little to no interference from the other connectors. However once the back is configured you then have to deal with the front. Again, I managed to get the wire into the holes and tighten the connections adequately.A week later I sought to make the connections cleaner and easier to disconnect/reconnect so I bought some Belkins Banana Plugs (AV54004). I highly recommend buying as many as you need for all your connections at the same time you order this wall plate. You will not regret either purchase.Belkin PureAV AV54004 Do-It-Yourself Gold Banana Plugs, 4-Pack

Post positions need to be adjusted...

by R. Bellman from on 2010-05-13
on the back of the wall plate if you are using the binding posts. With the tight spacing between adjacent posts, it is difficult to get wires in the holes unless you remove the hardware and adjust their positions. I used banana plugs on the front and they work great. The binding nuts feel a little cheap as they are thin and the threads aren't perfect, but they do the job.

Compact, good quality, but also a little hard to work with

by jaegertc from Minneapolis, Minnesota United States on 2010-04-20
Quality of construction was good and it is nice that you don't have to make a 3-gang wide hole in your wall, but that is also part of the problem. As others have said, its compact size makes this wall plate a little difficult to use. Fortunately, other than the occasional tightening, hopefully none of us have to loosen or tighten the binder posts that often. Finally, it owuld be nice if the manufacturer would put the posts in so that all of the holes for the wire were oriented in the same way/in a way that makes sense because you have to unscrew them to rotate them to better positions, which makes your install take even more time.

Description

A revolution in speaker design and thinking was launched with this speaker system from Bose. The two satellite speakers are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, making them perfect for any room in your house! They may be small but will still provide the famous Bose Direct-Reflecting M-^Y sound. The Bass Module will fill your room with deep, rich bass, while staying out of sight. Invisible never sounded so good! Color: Black

Experience enhanced sound from Bose's most affordable, next-generation Acoustimass stereo speakers. The Acoustimass 3 system delivers bass that's the deepest and fullest yet. Two single-cube speakers--smaller than ever before--are elegantly designed to fit virtually any decor. And the module easily hides away behind furniture or off in a corner, so all the lifelike sound seems to flow from the tiny cubes. When you hear the Acoustimass 5 Series III speakers, you'll think you're listening to much larger speakers. Yet the spacious sound actually comes from two tiny cube speaker arrays and a hideaway Acoustimass bass module. The improved cube speakers offer enhanced performance, contemporary styling, and a smaller size than the Series II. And the improved module fills a room with even deeper, fuller bass. These Virtually Invisible speakers are the definitive answer to the question of how to combine spacious sound with space-saving design. Though the Virtually Invisible speaker design may seem like a disappearing act, the performance is quite noticeable. Full, resonating bass and crystal-clear highs envelop a room in beautiful stereo sound. It's all the result of years of intense research and testing. The Acoustimass 5 speakers accomplish what no conventional speakers can claim: big, lifelike sound without big, bulky speakers. Now or in the future, Acoustimass stereo speakers can be turned into a home theater set by simply adding the compatible Bose VCS-10 center-channel speaker. For full five-speaker surround sound, add the VCS-30 center-surround speaker package.

AWESOME SPEAKERS when used correctly

by falshami from on 2010-09-07
i bought these and found them to be simply awesome. i know im not going to be believed when i say this but i literally have this system hooked up to a 2 watt per channel rms amplifier i removed from a crap pair of speakers and it gives me a great full sound. it even gets pretty loud so this tells me that these are VERY efficient speakers. again i realize i wont be believed but its true. i have hooked them up to other amps and they still sound amazing. i love these speakers and enjoy using them daily

A beautiful Wall of Sound !

by Music Lover from on 2010-07-17
I purchased my first Bose Acoustimas 5 System in Europe way back in the 80s around the time when they were first introduced. After 25+ years of reliable service, I decided to retire them and go with another manufacturer's surround sound system(5.1) to compliment my LCD TV. To my ears, the feeling of music on a real sound stage was lost. So, I decided to purchase (2010-July) another Bose Acoustimas 5 system (Version III) to replace the original. Essentially this system is a 2.0 configuration with the woofer box containing the crossover controls and circuit protection. Music has now come alive again ! I have the system in a 20' x 14' room and placed the woofer box in an optimal position. What I have now is mellow base with no booming and minimal resonance. Crisp highs form a wall of sound that envelops me as I listen. Wish they had just a tiny bit more mid range, but thats OK. For movies, I simply set my receiver for virtual surround sound. I've read various reports from people indicating that the speaker components, etc are cheap. My answer to that is I don't care if the sound being produced behind the cloth is from stretched bubble gum ; the only thing that really matters is the sound and product reliability. I highly recommend the system ; just find the sweet spot in your room for the woofer box, tilt the upper reflecting speaker cubes in one of the ways recommended by Bose in the users guide and your set. I have my satellite speakers mounted on the Bose UFS-20 floor stands.

Try before you buy!!!

Buy these if you must, but before you spend $400 on them, please visit a local stereo shop and hear how much better $400, or $300, or even $200 spent there will sound. Really. I bet you'll find that any decent independent stereo shop will have a multitude of options superior to Bose for equal or less money, and you'll be supporting a locally owned business that will almost certainly offer you vastly better service and advice than that you'll find in a big box store.

no impressed with the acoustmass system

by Christophe Hamann from on 2010-04-13
I figured that anything from bose would be excellent but I have to say that this product is an exception. I have it hooked up to my samsung 55" flat screen lcd tv. One of the most annoying things about this product is that the remote has to be pointed directly at the receiver for it to pick up the command. The bose wave system picks up remote signals from a far wider angle range and you dont have to be right on it but the accustamas isnt made the same way; unfortunately. The sound quality of the speakers seems average but the sub woofer is excellent.

The speakers came with plenty of info for install. Adequate speaker wire. Installation was a snap. And you cannot beat Bose for sound quality.

Big improvement over my z523

by Cheng Pang Yang from Corona, CA United States on 2010-09-02
For those looking to buy 2.1 speakers under $100 range, I high recommend this set before they run out. The price is a steal for the sound quality.I have spent twice as much on Logitech Z523 (was $99.99 when I purchased) before, and these blow them away! Tight, punchy bass, with crystal clear highs and mids.I love how all the controls are digital. It comes with wireless remote too.Sound quality is so good I am considering to purchase another pair for use with my home theater LCD TVs in the living room.Amazon free shipping rocks!

Love Love my Speakers

by Taking Control in 2009 from Decatur, IL on 2010-08-31
I was very impressed with these speakers. I bought them to add a little sound to my Vizio tv which needed to be turned way up when I played dvds. My parents visited and heard them and had me order them a set that same night. The only thing I don't really care for is the remote control. I don't like that you can't turn the speakers off and on by the remote. I still give it 5 stars because it doesn't hurt me to get up and turn the speakers on when I want to use them!!

Worth every penny

by Joe from on 2010-08-29
Great set of speaker for under $50.Pro's: Great Audio range Fantastic price Easy set up (all speakers are easy, these are somehow even easier) Remote control LCD screen (nice touch) Fantastic audio qualityCons: No off button on front of control unit NO speaker volume control Remote has limited function Impossible to see levels of treble and bass very large for desktop speakers no covers on speakers (have kids that think its fun to touch the speakers)All in all, would recommend this product to ANYONE in the market for new computer speakers. The cord is plenty long for computer speakers, and the remote is handy because the control unit/subwoofer is not going to be easy to get at depending on where you put it. Sound quality is fantastic, although the bass does struggle a bit on the extreme low end. (20hz) You will not find a better set up for this price anywhere.
