10 bone-headed mistakes plasma TV buyers should avoid!

Shopping for a big screen TV means avoiding a lot of people trying to dazzle with new technology.

You have the vendors to the side of the TV spot about "DLP", "EDTV" or "1080i". You have to outsmart Internet with artists selling "gray market" Plasmas. And you have to ignore the advice of the bones of the head of Fred, the neighborhood know-it-all.

Error # 1: Do not buy a "No Name" plasma TV!
The most important decision you can make when buying a big screen TV is to decide not to buy a "No Name." A device as complex as a LCD, Plasma or DLP TV should be made with the best components of dozens of technical experts working several million dollars in plants. "No name" companies use none of these.

Error # 2: Never Trust A "Seeing Eye" TV salesman!
If you walk into a TV showroom and do not know EDTV HDTV, a clever salesman smile and eat you for lunch! Do not allow sellers to make decisions for you, or you'll end up with some outdated TV his boss wants to get rid of him. Or end up with screen burn-in on your new Plasma when your son is connected to its Playstation 3, or suffer with a dark screen in brightly lit living room. Do some research before making a purchase, it is not difficult.

(If you are not familiar with some of the terms used above - DLP, EDTV, LCD - Google the "123 TV.com plasma Guide)

Error # 3: Do not buy a "No-Name" Retailer!
It is important to buy the plasma TV from a store trusted brand merchandise sales. The return of a faulty $ 2000 Plasma not bankrupt Wal-Mart or Sony, but could devastate a mom and pop electronics store. Try to make major purchases from the website of a major retailer, ensure that they provide a good return policy and brand plasmas have a discounted price.

Mistake # 4: Do not Fall For Plasma Internet Scams!
We've all seen what appear to great deals on plasma televisions online. But exactly what is too much? This means get great merchandise at a great price. Not much if you get shit PROPERTY AT A GREAT PRICE! You do not want your "new" plasma for an article returned or restored. Avoid "gray market" or merchandise "B stock", and avoid sellers who are not authorized retailers.

Error # 5: Do not play video games on a plasma TV!
The possibility of screen burn on a plasma TV has been greatly reduced by improved technology, but not eliminated. Computer programs, video games, stock tickers and station logos can burn permanently into the screen, ruining your face TV. DLP and LCD TV screens can not be burned on the screen, ever.

Error # 6: Do not let a Know-It-All Pick your TV!
Your neighbor Fred says he is an expert in large-screen televisions, and volunteers to help you buy one. Fred can be a good guy. . . you can even know the difference between DTV and DLP. But Fred also can be a Boob blowing smoke out the back of his shorts. How can you say? Trust the only person you can trust to look out to their interests. . . you! Listen to Fred, but take with a grain of salt. . . and do your own research!

Error # 7: Do not try to bring home an HDTV plasma for yourself!
There was a time you could go to Circuit City, buy a color TV, 19 inch, pull in the back seat and go home. . . those days are over! Sending a plasma TV at home is the only sensible way to get there, is too large, expensive, heavy and delicate to be put in the trunk of a car. Your dealer will send to you, make sure that insurance and tracking included in the agreement. Do not sign for delivery until you have inspected the TV and damage.

Error # 8: Do not install a plasma TV Without Help!
A plasma TV, although thin, is really very heavy. A plasma television 50 inches can weigh over 160 pounds. Mounting a plasma TV in it's table stand is a work of three people, call some friends stronger. The delivery people put your TV on the sidewalk, or in your living room, depending on what you paid. They will not install your TV on a wall, the service costs $ 200 - $ 300.

Error # 9: Do not fail to connect a Dolby sound system!
You should not settle for the sound of TV speakers. Attached to your TV, amplifier, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound sends six separate channels of sound through the speakers in front, on both sides and behind the viewer. Home Theater Systems start as low as $ 250 and enter in the thousands, but includes an amplifier, five speakers, cables and a subwoofer. Dolby 7.1 is even more advanced with eight sound channels.

Error # 10: Do not forget to budget for peripherals!
To fully enjoy your new plasma TV, you need a lot of other stuff: HDMI cables for each peripheral protectors, a TV stand or wall, an HD DVD player and digital cable television high definition broadcasts. You will also need a home theater system with at least Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and a comfortable viewing area. I'm not trying to scare. . . a modest system can cost less than $ 300 a good system between $ 800 - $ 1000 and a Top-of-the-line system and up to $ 1500.

Well, there you go. . . The 10 Biggest bone heads can make mistakes when you shopping for the perfect plasma TV! Avoid like the plague!

Good luck. . . I hope that the plasma TV that will thrill your family for many years!

It's as easy as 123!
