I bit the bullet and started looking for a receiver that had enough HDMI inputs, enough SVHS inputs, an input for my iPod and RCA-phono/USB-phono, LAN and PC. Previously, was one of Pioneer VSX-9500, then a Yamaha model with about 5 SVHS inputs, and a Denon AVR 4802R with 7 entries SVHS. After a couple of months of searching through the usual suspects, including those of other brands I've had, I decided on the target = "_blank"> Yamaha RX-V3800 in black because it allowed me to do enough of what I wanted to make my shopping list above mentiond.
First Instead, I was surprised to find that all the receivers I looked at had reduced its number of connections from four years ago when I bought my Denon receiver. I had to look at receivers costing 2 to 3 times more than the Yamaha RX-V3800 before I could find as many innings, and I found even Yamaha RX-Z11 has the same number as the RX-V3800, and ran almost $ 5,000.00. Then I thought about it ... What were the contributions actually use most of all: SVHS, BluRay, HD-DVD, DVR, DVR-VHS combo, CD player, cassette, and phono. There was a remaining input I was able to use a junction box to the ED-Beta, Laser Disc, radio XM, and a DVR-R, so the Yamaha RX-V3800 would do without me having to commit too.
But go to the machine and all the advantages of it is:
The sound ... It's great! With my previous system had to Gerry-rig the side speakers using a quadraphonic synthesizer, but the Yamaha RX-V3800 has connections from the following speakers: front left, front right, center, left, right, left, rear, right rear, and subwoofer. My Settings Previous to the back had a center, and after reading a bit, I found I could hook a center back using the RCA connection labeled "Single (SB). "(There is a" presence SURBACK "that can be used, too, but was designed for when you only wanted a back channel). By setting speakers, Yamaha has a special optimizer microphone that plug into the front of the unit and the balance of the speakers based on where you have placed the microphone.
Four HDMI inputs are great, too, because I may have the best picture and sound from my BluRay, HD-DVD, satellite receiver, and DVR-VHS.
Internet radio is easy to use, and is programmed with a lot of stations. The selection of stations with the Yamaha remote is easy and the sound is wonderful.
The Yamaha YDS-10 iPod Dock option is a must if you have an iPod. Frankly, probably not going to use my phone, now, except to digital recordings of vinyl records out of date due to the ease of operation of the iPod through the docking station, especially if you are 80 or 160 GB model iPod with any music they can hold.
The XM set-up with the XM Extreme is nice and integrates smoothly. I actually use an older XM radio through two RCA inputs, but with the XM Extreme directly connected, it is easier to use.
The computer set-up is not as easy as the manual could to believe, but it's easier if you do the following: Make sure that your PC has XP Service Pack Two or Vista on it and have Windows Media Player 11 installed, have your 232 between the computer serial ports and the Yamaha RX-V-3800 connected and have a networking guide for the operating system. Once you have done these, go to Windows Media Player, select "Library" at the top and then select "Sharing" to allow music from your PC to be shared with your receiver. On the other PC on your local network, would best for you and have common themes, but if you connect an iPod, that might not be necessary. While I'm at it, I will say this about Media Player ll: once you've checked boxes on the right, does a good job.
Overall, I am very happy with the Yamaha RX-V3800. I think I could have done a better job with the manual ... for example in the establishment of the PC, start reading the instructions and refers to the other two sections of the manual, and when things do not seem to jell, one finds that later in the manual showing how to make the set-up more thoroughly and manually, if necessary. Said and done, however, I would buy this the receiver again. I wish there were more entries, but again, most people do not have as much to hook-up like me. If there was a four and half star rating, I would give, but I'm stuck taking only four.

![]() Crystal Acoustics THX-3D12 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System, Piano Black List Price: Sale Price: $2,499.00 Average Rating: ![]() DescriptionHere's a speaker system that offers a great home theater experience, no matter where you sit. Includes the THX Ultra2 Certified TX-T3SE tower speakers, a marvellous THX Select Certified center speaker whose ability with voices will astonish, THX Select dipole speakers for rear effects and a hefty 200W active THX Select certified subwoofer. Perhaps the most distinctive piece of engineering on the T3s is the proprietary 'free air' tweeter. Sitting in its own ultra-rigid, spherical, aluminium enclosure on top of the cabinets, the design can be rotated to face the listener, making room integration far easier. Free of unwanted distortion, due its shape, it delivers a clear, transparent sound with excellent dispersion. Lower down the frequency range, T3s employ 7'' Crystal fibre mid/bass drivers that comprise tightly woven fibreglass whose mechanical properties - light yet extremely stiff -deliver a linear and fast response. The magnetically shielded drivers are backed by heavy duty, powerful magnets, delivering very high efficiency levels. Each driver is housed in its own damped chamber, sealed or ported, for the optimum bass tuning that can be achieved at this volume. Cabinets are heavily braced at critical points to offer an acoustically dead enclosure. They also offer small, narrow, though deep, footprints. This shape reduces diffractions - especially from the front baffles - giving an incredibly three-dimensional soundstage and far clearer stereo imaging. A similar design is found in the THX centre speaker which uses a rotating tweeter and one 7'' Crystal fibre woofer to deliver exceptional vocals. The rear effects are assigned to the THX dipole speakers which use two silk dome, reverse facing tweeters that immerse the listener in the action. Completing the package is a 200W active subwoofer with a 12'' long throw driver incorporating a light but rigid specially treated paper cone for fast, dynamic, transient bass with sonic accuracy.
