Home Theater Equipment

Home Theater Equipment

How the home theater room set up right is as important as getting the home theater components, but right in most cases can not be changed much room. It can be your home or in a special room, but hardly ever going to put a wall just so you can watch movies. It is therefore important to ensure that home theater components to fit the size of the room and the existing design. One of the components as the system could be an HDTV or high-definition television definition. There are virtually hundreds of different brands and models of HDTV So what are and what considerations should you do to fit in your living room or living room? This article will help you decide.

The first thing to consider is the type of technology used to create the exhibit. There are three types of screen flat, projection and CRT technology

Flat screen technology - Plasma and LCD

Flat screen technology is fashionable at the moment. Flat screens can be attached to the wall so you can save space in a small room. There are two types of flat screens that are popular at this time. These are plasma and LCD. Both types have pros and cons. They have an image resolution than other types of S. But HDTV, plasma TV can suffer burns in, whereby a repetitive image will leave a ghost image after some time. This is supposed to be getting better with the new models. LCDs have a broad vision limited before the image becomes distorted.

Projection technology - Front and rear projector systems

There are two types of projection systems available: front projection and rear projection.

Front projection is probably the most expensive HDTV you can get. It consists of a projector and separate screen room. You would need a large room to fit in this system or perhaps a room dedicated to your system home theater. With this system you can get great screens that have great pictures, but the system is difficult to install and requires regular maintenance and tune it for the best image.

Rear projection screen is a built-in HDTV. This is a much cheaper option. A rear projection system can be very thin if using a micro projector, but also suffers from limited viewing angles.

CRT Technology

Technology cathode ray tube is the one most people are familiar. Essentially you use a tube that makes them very bulky, but it would be bigger than a TV standard. In general, a CRT HDTV would have a large range of colors and a contrast ratio higher than other types of technologies. Screen sizes are smaller the technology of other types and the image resolution is lower.

Selection of the best HDTV ultimately comes down to choice. If the money and space are no object then a front projection system is your best option. After that comes down to how to prioritize the amount of money you want to invest, HDTV where to go and what you plan to do with it (watching TV, watch movies or play).

Home Theater Install?

prefer to pay someone to install home theater equipment, or do it yourself?

I am a DIY person myself. I like know the how and why above all because it means I get to put things in the way I want - not as someone thinks they should be created. It also means that I will to experiment with different settings. After saying this, but I know that there is a large numb the mind of options to make and the back of a Good A / V receiver seems to have a million connections. It can be very confusing at times. Also, I made a mistake when first was the creation of my system and my player DVD is incompatible with my A / V receiver (DVD had coaxial digital audio output and receiver input has toslink so I had to buy another DVD player). Having a professional help choose and configure the computer can provide a lot of frustrations. If you go that route, find one that does not care if you ask a lot of questions. Good luck!

AFFORDABLE HT - Entry Level HT Speaker System

by Mace from on 2010-06-28
I have had these speakers in my home theater for over 1 1/2 years. I have a very serious dedicated home theater room that I started building 2 years ago. Money became short and I wanted to get the best "temporary" speaker system knowing that I will be slowly upgrading the components. The speakers were my last item.I started with these CS6100s from JBL after reviewing many sources. They have performed SO WELL! I recently purchased my new speakers, they cost much more than these... and now have to get rid-of the JBLs. A few of my friends who have heard these at my house have already started knocking on the door! That is how good they are... listen to them and they will easily sell themselves. Especially knowing the system is well under $1,000.Pros: Sound quality is very good, looks are great, unbeatable system price, easy to install and set-up. Having 5 identical voice matched speakers really helps the sound transition across the space smoothly. Fits medium to small rooms very well.Cons: Speakers tend to focus the sound where the speaker is aimed - minimal dispersion. I also prefer more mid-range punch, but smaller speaker usually have this problem. The sub covers well except for the very low. On this subject, I already added a monstrous SVS deep bass sub, so this had little impact on my system. I used the JBL for mid-bass and the SVS for under 50hz (it goes to 12!).My personal catch 22: It is hard to depart from this set-up after using these JBL speaker as a "temporary" speaker system for almost 2 years now. I found it VERY hard to sell the need for the more expensive speakers (which I just purchased) to my wife... there is so little wrong with the "temporary" JBL speakers! They are a perfect affordable solution to very good HT sound.

Great sound.

by Marc from Austin, Texas USA on 2010-04-14
I was debating between these speakers and B&W $2000 speakers. I am so happy that I went with these and saved about $1500. They sound just as good and I ended up getting a new TV with the money I saved from not getting B&W ones. So worth it.

Great sound, great looks, hideously expensive stands

by Jim Chou from Austin, TX USA on 2010-04-05
When upgrading to an HD system I decided I'd had enough of the big Infiniti speakers I had and looked for something a little more compact. These are definitely eye candy, especially when mounted on their (separately available) stands, but they also provide great room-filling sound, and sound good regardless of whether you're watching an action movie or a classical music concert.

Good speaker system

by B. Barlow from PA on 2010-03-07
I had to keep the size to a minimum, but still wanted good sound. This system doesn't sound like the tower/floor stand type speakers; but for the size and price, they are great. The subwoofer works well. The dual midrange cones provide good sound also. Also the system comes with speaker wire and a subwoofer cable, so unless you are going to put these a long way from the receiver, you probably don't need to order any additional. I would definitely recommend these.

Great system!!

by D. Ostrander from Kalamazoo, MI USA on 2010-06-14
I have owned this system for over a year now. I love them!! They are very nice to look at, they are small and do not take up much room. They are also very durable, My kids have knocked the speakers off the tv stand more than a couple times while dusting and they take a good fall on a hard wood floor and work great and no marks on the casings. The sound of this system is also top shelf. They go very loud and are distortion free. I highly recommend this speaker system.

great speakers for a low price

We are really enjoying the JBL's. The sound quality is everything we hoped for and they look very clean mounted on the walls.

JBL shines again!!

by AJ from on 2010-02-06
I recently purchased this speaker system, and I have been very pleased with the sound from these speakers. I was unsure if the smaller speakers (compared to the 6100) would have enough power to rock the basement, but these speakers sound awesome. The subwoofer really puts out thumping bass, and I just have it turned up half the way. I paired these with the onkyo RC160, and the results are spectacular. The glossy finish looks cool, but is a dust magnet. This is my second JBL speaker system purchase, and I would gladly recommend JBL to my friends.

Great bulb

by Autodoc from on 2010-08-10
I bought this bulb back in March of 2009 - I now have 3,150 hours on it and finally decided to replace it as it was getting a bit dim during the daytime.Obviously I watch a lot of TV and movies, but for the price I will be ordering another from Amazon when I need a new bulb!Great product - great price!

Worked for only 72 hours.

by Colin O. Schroeder from Anchorage, AK USA on 2009-10-14
Everything seemed fine and normal. I popped the bulb in and it worked ok for about an hour before it started to overheat. I have a bigass fan sitting around so I opened the window and pointed it at the projector. It lasted another month and finally burned out with the bulb lifespan of only 72 hours.Amazon has been awesome in assisting me with my return and full refund. I am mailing the bulb back as we speak.

Bulb lasted 150% advertised life

by Evan Manrow from Novi, MI on 2009-06-29
I know, it's expensive (read the other review). I thought the same thing. But you did check the bulb prices before you bought the projector, right?Right?Anyway, because of my previous experience with an Acer projector, I expected this bulb to last in the area of 750 hours (it's advertised at 2000). To my pleasant surprise, my first bulb went to 2970 before dying.Just make sure, when you replace the bulb, that you carefully clear out any dust from the inside of the case; if your screen is flashing green, your color wheel is probably gummed up. It took me forever to figure that out.Anyhow, your choice is between this bulb at about $250 for 2000+ hours, or some other crappy bulb for $180 at < 1000 hours. You do the math.

So far, so good

by Guy M from Akron, OH on 2009-06-28
I have less than 100 hours on this new bulb, so I can't comment on bulb life. My largest quibble is with the bulb's location on the projector in that I had to take it down from the ceiling and remove the mount to replace the bulb. Also, there were no installation instructions included, so I had to find the owners manual. And these bulbs are still too expensive. But the picture from the revitalized HD70 makes it all worth while.

Wireless audio connection

by Ron Miller from Dania Beach, Fl on 2010-03-21
As a long-time user of 900 MGHz wireless connections for earphones and other audio devices I was very interested in "moving forward' with my use of those devices. With that goal in mind, and after much research, I decided to purchase the Aerielle i2i Wireless Digital Audio Device. The clarity of sound is excellent, the range of broadcast is well within my needed limits, and they are so cute! My only negative comment would be about having to charge them by UBS cable - one of the units only held a charge for an hour - I had both units plugged into my MacBook Pro for initial charging. After I charged them separately, all seems to be OK meaning that both are still charged enough to use after about four hours of use. Overall, I would recommend these wireless audio devices.

Nice to broadcast anything throughout your house

by D from NW IN on 2010-01-15
This is a great product that I happened to get in the lightning deals one day. I have in wall speakers throughout my house in all areas, even out on my patio by our pool. Each speaker has its own volume control and was being pushed with a Harman Kardon reciever. I would listen to either cd, fm, or whatever. I did have to set ir flashers at various points throughout to advance tracks or even movies if we were doing that. Lots of work involved there. Now with these i2i I am in heaven! I have put everything on my Ipod touch and plugged the receiver into my HK and the broadcast of course from the Ipod. I have walked all over (I live in a quad, and all the equip is downstairs). Not a problem with any signal loss, and range is very good. I can change anything I want from anywhere - even outside by the pool or yard work! I hope to get a few more for our boys so we can also put earbuds on and listen to each others when we would like. I already had the usb ac adapter and usually keep them plugged in while playing, but if not the battery will last up to about 3 hours or so. They are light weight and you can't even tell they are there. We have 4 Ipod touches in this house, and each one of us likes different types of music, so when mom/wife wants to listen to something she just changes to the color whichever she wants to. these really are a great little gadget. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic product

by Scott R. Weaver from Riverside, CA on 2010-01-06
I love these things. They have massive range and are crystal clear. I use them for everything. I listen to music from my computer on my stereo (from the other side of the room). I use it as an MP3 player to listen to songs from my computer. Two of us can listen to and play WII with wireless headphones, without waking up the others in the house. Literally, the possibilities are endless. The huge old Sony wireless headphones are being laid to rest. They have a much shorter range and lower quality sound than these wireless devices.I expected to feel ripped off once I got this product, but to the contrary, I can't say enough about how great the quality is. We bought another pair, since they are fully compatible with one another. Who would have thought a transmitter and a receiver? Awesome! For those who are frustrated by the price, I have to disagree. This product has more capability than most MP3 players, and actually costs less. Admittedly, they don't have storage, but for around the house, there is more than adaquate storage on my computer. On top of that, you can use them for their intended purpose, to listen to your friend's MP3 player. Frankly, the manufacturer is missing the real potential of this product by calling it an i2i though. It is really so much more than that.Try a pair, and I bet you will realize what a great product you have been missing out on.

I love it!

by phatso from Florida on 2009-12-27
Its an awesome idea, especially if you are in High school or middle school.... too bad these werent around when i was a teennot only can you share music, but you can broadcast it in different frequencies allowing a group of people to interchangeably share their music with each other simultaneouslytakes a long time to charge and instructions arent very good, but this seems to be a really cool idea, if nothing else

Battery does not last and is unreplaceable

by M. Allen from Los Angeles on 2009-12-25
This product is useful to listen to streaming audio off the computer but the batteries are UNREPLACEABLE and only lasted 1 year with moderate use. The only option is to buy new ones when the batteries quit on you, what kind of a music device is that, RIDICULOUS and disingenuous, I emailed the company before I bought them and was told don't worry they'll last years, well they didn't. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, I learn the first time and I will not replace them.

Good for studio...NOT for live sound, period!

by P. Rhode from portola, ca United States on 2010-08-13
I have gone through three of these and I give up! The first time I bought one for a outdoor gig where I used a 6k Honda Inverter generator. The PRO 3500 outlets all shut down before the first set. Total watt draw was about 1800 watts at the time. We used a $12 Ace Hardware power strip and finished the gig. I sent the unit to Monster (their service is excellent for returns, RMA's, etc.) in San Rafael and received a brand new in-the-box replacement. I quickly used that one for another live gig (with commercial power) and that unit shut down as well. I became leary of them at that point and found out that many others shared the same dilemma. Nonetheless, I just got a new one back after returning the 2nd one and this one did the very same thing at my Relay For Life gig. Strike Three! Monster products are usually top-of-the-line and very well made. I just bought their "lesser" model 1000 Pro and I will give that a try. I need power protection and I need reliablility. I believe the 3500 PRO is over-circuited for live sound. Please respond if you have had similar or different experiences.

Improved sound in home theatre with one product

by Walter M. Seiler from on 2010-02-07
The addition of the MP PRO 3500 to a home theatre is the cheapest addition that improved sound quality noticeably. There was some ground loop issues and a cheaper surge suppressor had introduced some unwanted harmonics and a slight buzz. Adding the Monster MP PRO eliminated the problems and the unwanted audio artifacts. The addition of a simplified power handling and an attractive addition to the audio rack are a nice plus. Only disappointment is the light has no good place to store in the rack so it is stored away and not used.

Excellent power fitler

by V. Fischer from St. Louis, MO on 2009-11-12
You can't get into Monster;s Stage 3 power filter any cheaper than this and still get visibility into voltage and amperage usage. 12 outlets ensures that you can power everything on the rack, the 8 ft power cord is extremely sufficient.Only item that is missing is coax protection. Not necessarily an issue for everyone (extremely low probability of a surge from that source), but worth noting if you really want to be overly, extremely cautious.

Dead after 2 years...

by Enhung Sun from Floral Park, NY on 2009-09-05
Purchased this product 2 year ago, and used it up to about a month ago...In a fine morning, I wanted to turn on my stereo system and listen to some music, however, no power! Monster Pro-3500 failed: voltage, current display failed! After opened the lid and some testing, I noticed all secondary relays failed...Moreover, the inside of this product uses only basic L-R-C filters, diode clamps, devices plus a digital multimeter and timers! Since I am a hard-core DIYer for about 20 years, I am kind of surprised by its internal circuit design. With the beautiful chassis and the PCB with ferrite cores, I can cut off 1/3 of the PCB (digital meter part), install a new 1KW center-tapped (60-0-60) toroidal transformer to make a balanced power supply with my dead Pro350, which will be a nice DIY project! For the price and the potential for DIY project potential, three stars for Pro-3500!

You Get What You Pay For

by A. Powell from nc on 2009-05-09
As someone with a homestudio, I needed something to protect my gear in case of surges. After reading some reviews of various furman and monster applications, I decided to give this unit a shot. Its Heavy, well constructed, and it seems to do its job. Also, my recordings are relatively noiseless now.Only Qualm: I don't think it protects you gear if its turned off, or at least the protection light isn't on. I leave mine on, and just turn off the individual switches on the gear.

Fantastic system for its size

by John Baldridge from Phoenix, AZ USA on 2008-12-03
We have these in two different rooms and have never once felt they were underpowered or unbalanced. These speakers are stealthy; they almost invisibly fill the room with crisp (but not tinny), powerful sound. If you are looking to impress people with how big your speakers are, these are not for you. If you are looking for a system to annoy neighbors in surrounding houses, you will need a bigger (10" or more) subwoofer and bigger mids.

Great Speakers!

by Book Review Dude from Mountain View, CA on 2008-10-20
This is my first home theater system. The speakers work great. Other then the need to switch out the stock speaker wire for something a little more hefty like say, 12 gauge, the sound quality is far more then I expected. The powered subwoofer is Ok, but I wanted something heavier - at least a 10". I got a 12", 400 watt subwoofer, and I think my neighbors don't like me anymore :) I would recommend JBL speakers over BOSE speakers any day!
