Home Theater Ceiling Lighting

Home theater question?

The room I'm putting this on is 24 "long x 16'wide x 10 'high and the room will be pitch black (no ambient light). My question is a Optoma HD70 and a screen of 145 "diagnal, does it matter what the screen gain and receives no light and if so what do you recommend gray GOO clear or white paint? What is the difference? That said, once the screen is built, which determains how low should hang the projector from the ceiling on to the top of the sreen. The reason I ask is because they want to set this up and have the sceen look distorted. The last question is will a fan overhead projector running ahead of distorting the image. I know I have a lot of questions, but since I will spend several thousand on this, I wish you well. Thanks to all to respond.

The first 2 links are of two reviews of the HD 70. This is a must read for a good overview of the projector. Note the first link is the page that contains recommendations for the HD70 screen. A maximum of 100 to 106 "screen is recommended (unless you want a screen High gain - at risk hot spots and color changes.) So we had to suggest the idea of a 145 "screen is not realistic. On the other hand what really need a big screen? Note that THX recommends no more than a viewing angle of 40 degrees (SMPTE suggests more than 30 degrees) ... which is the angle subtended from the viewing position between the edge of the screen left and right (see the third link of a calculator). While this is a personal preference very big problem a screen is as bad as (or worse) too small, as it will lead to viewer fatigue. Therefore, considering that the apparent size of the screen remains As long as the viewing angle is constant, you can define the viewing angle you want and then adjust the viewing distance to accommodate a larger screen small (to make room for a second row of seats if the project along the longitudinal axis of the room). Another consideration is the vertical height of the screen. While than 10 m height of the room is large, a 16:9 143 "screen is 70" high, and for mounting in optimal shape for a 40 "viewing height is necessary have the bottom 15 "or less above the ground (the eyes should be level with a period of not more than 1 / 3 and 1 / 2 height of the screen). This does not leave much space for a center speaker. Finally, the angle of displacement in the HD70 is pretty strong (and no lens shift), so the projector must be mounted well above the top of the screen if the ceiling. The manual is unclear, but seems like you need to mount the projector to 16 "above the top of the screen 100 "16:9 screen (and more for a bigger screen). So assuming 24" from floor to the bottom of the screen (not absolute but a common dimension), a 102 "16:9 screen would be 54.2" tall, plus a bit more than 16 "offset ... or mounting a projector height 94 ". A 143" screen would require a mounting height of approximately 115 "... it would not be appropriate. I suggest you plan on a screen small 143 "--- ie. 100" or something - and, given the lack of lens shift and confusion in the new manual angle of displacement, mount the projector height is calculated on the basis of 16 "of motion of a 100" screen (ie, about 94 "of floor in the center of the lens). Then see where the light falls, mark the wall and mount the screen or paint to match. If you use Goo or some other paint formula (there are some good tips alternatives in the AVS Forum (Google it!) DIY Screen section) to paint the big screen and then the mask with a black cloth or paint match the projected image. If you want a big screen can not accommodate a center speaker, consider a material transparent accoustically screen instead of paint. See the link room for a supplier of a DIY solution. As a fan ... I do not want anything in the path of light, so you want to have the projector under the fan ... another reason to go with the smaller screen. There ... a long answer, but I hope that helps.

What is cheaper than buying an HDTV and a support or a projector and screen and the cable through the roof?
