The proper projection screen can save you money!

In LCDProjectorCenter.com we focus heavily on LCD projectors, so why Why am I writing about projector screens? Very simple really. Buying your LCD projector in the isolation of the screen regardless of how they work together is likely to cost more and give less than perfect results.

How can you choose the right projector screen save you money?

One of the biggest challenges when choosing an LCD projector is getting the correct brightness for the room that will be using inches for home use can usually darken the room. This means you can buy a cheap LCD projector, often saving many hundreds if not thousands, of dollars.

But often dark room significantly is neither possible nor desirable. Buying a superior projector will a brighter image, but it's probably cheaper to buy a projector screen with high gain. The quality of LCD projector can cost thousands of dollars more than a regulatory model, quality projector, screens while increasing image brightness and clarity are only a few hundred dollars more.

Brightness projector screen and gains

The brightness of an LCD projector is given in ANSI lumens. Typical values for home theater and presentation use business are 500 to 3000. The higher the number, the brighter the image will be. At the lower end a dark room is essential, while at the top acceptable results are possible with higher light levels. The current generation of projectors for use at home are typically in the range 1000-1500.

The gain of a projection screen is the increase in the brightness of the image produced compared to a flat matt white screen. This comes as a simple number, for example, 1, 1.5, 2, etc. An increase of 1 means that the image is the same brightness as the surface of a flat matte white, while 2 means the image is twice as bright.

As an example, if you decide you need about 1500 lumens to produce an image of acceptable quality, you could buy a projector with the rating and concern the screen later. Or you could buy a cheaper model at 1000 lumens and match it to a projection screen with a gain of 1.5. This would give effective image brightness of 1500 lumens, with a reduced cost.

Very High Gain Projection Screens

Typical screen economic projection had earnings of between 1 and 1.2. gains 1.5 to 1.8 are achieved with high quality pearlescent finishes in almost twice the cost. If money is not important and needs as much profit as possible, then you need a projection screen chromatically equal.

Gains of up to 4 can be achieved now matched with projectors and screens. An LCD projector only transmits 3 light wavelengths of narrow red, green and blue. A compatible projector screen is coated with a material that reflects only these wavelengths. Almost all the ambient light is absorbed or scattered, so the projected image is much brighter.

The downside of the screen projection high-gain

While the projector screen can help make you use a cheap LCD projector in brighter rooms than it could handle alone, there are 3 rewards. These are the viewing angle, color changes and uneven brightness.

High projection screens limit increased viewing angle. For a screen with a gain of 1 to display the high quality image about 50 degrees from the projector. But in a gain of 1.5 that the viewing angle is reduced to about 35 degrees. More than 2 and the viewing angle has been reduced to about 25 degrees, which is much harder to design your room.

Color changes occur due to the surface properties of the higher gain screens. A blank screen will truly accurate color. In trying to manipulate the way light reflects in a high gain screen can cause a change in some colors. This is rarely a reason not to buy unless they really colors need to be competitive.

The greatest impact of a projector screen high gain has on the quality of the image is the brightness change from central the screen to the edge. There can be up to 30% difference in earnings of more than 2. This is usually not too much of a problem, but to be much more remarkable in greater the angle of vision.

Conclusion

A little research and some leg work could help make big savings. Treat the projector screen as an integral part of your system and buy together with your projector. Visit the shops and insist the demonstrations with a variety of projector LCD screen combinations.

Choosing a good quality, moderate increase (1,4-1,6) projector screen can reduce cost and increase performance of your system. A cheap LCD projector can produce bright, clear image at higher light levels than expected. So while the projector screen may cost more, overall saved.
