The best home theater: it can be yours at the small cost

Like anything else in the market, no products and no products. Home theater systems have become better known thanks to falling prices of its components, especially flat-screen market. Prices have fallen due to advances in technology allowing for greater integration of different applications using microprocessors that cost less stronger and less these days. The other reason for a drop in prices of flat screen televisions are the economies of scale in production. Most people do not know but perhaps more than 90% of all TVs Flat panel is made in Korea, which focus on research and development of such items.

These days the arrival of Home Theater Systems cash has allowed more consumers to experience the thrill of home theater without breaking the bank. This HTIB system have been the most sought-after products, because is easy to configure. Practically, there is nothing to configure and therefore can be configured in the table. Blu-Ray technology has also compromised by falling prices for OEMs, since the money is in the process technology for the masses. This only helps both manufacturers and consumers in the clarity and quality DVD's. HTIB also been integrated to the Internet and the iPod features into its products making it even more appealing to a younger market. Having an experience home theater, not just a room but in many rooms and for children who enjoy multi-level functions of games, is totally blowing mind the experience itself. Can you imagine all the sounds and graphics in the levels of theater? It is likely that feels like an amusement park in the comfort of your room.

Some HTIB products that have received excellent reviews are:

- Samsung HT BD 1250, sold between 340 to 550 U.S. dollars

- LHB 953 LG sold about 480 dollars to 500

- BT Panasonic SC-300 sold 400 to $ 700

-- Panasonic SC BT 200 sold 400 to $ 600

- Sony BDV

- E 500W which sells for about 580 $ 900

Of the five, Samsung includes streaming media capabilities Netflix and Pandora, and for this, has an advantage over other HBIT products. Most of the above products HBIT rated have great brand recognition, especially in the categories of audio and video.

The best home theater HBIT list is of course all as to their taste. The poll was taken where it is based on consumers who are Internet users computer savvy and heavy. Other studies may be different since some may have a preference for sound quality, others for its practicality, and others for their aesthetics. But whatever the best home theater system and always should be based on what consumers prefer. That is the best indicator.

Requires setting adjustments to work properly out of the box. Read the manual for help.

by pinenutmeg from seattle on 2010-08-28
This was such a great deal that I went ahead knowing it was probably just functional, not amazing. With these very low expectations, I am happy with it. When I attached my tv using the green/blue/red rca cables i got a pink picture, but found later that you have to select this output in the setup menu for it to view correctly. I am able to connect my cable box and bluray player to the single rca audio input using two cheap rca y adapters for surround sound. The decoder in the unit is able to convert rca to 5.1 channel provided you select digital output spdif/raw in settings (i thought for a while it did not work, but I just needed to change the setting). When I played a 5.1ch dvd on my bluray with rca audio input thru the coby, the sound seemed the same as when I it played directly on the coby player. I can use netflix and pandora on my blueray with audio thru the coby. I plan to use the coby player just for usb/sd/cd music, and save video playback for my blueray. The tuner is a nice back up, but not easy to use. It would probably benefit from better speaker wire for better sound, which just barely fills my 20x20 room. The menus are aggravating and you can only adjust audio settings when the disk is source. Not impressive if you accustomed to top of the line electronics, but certainly good enough for someone like me who had nothing before. No idea how long it will last.

Great value for the price

by Brian E. Nelson from Tacoma, WA on 2010-08-03
We bought this unit based on price, and it is great, for the price. It is a basic unit with basic features.I wish there was more customizability in the unit. It is a pain to always have to walk through the controls from DVD, to Radio to Line input, just to watch cable TV. But what can you expect for under $100?Well worth the price.

This is a low end sound system, works well but output quality is not that great

Surround sound system

by Doobster from on 2010-07-15
We ordered this surround system. It arrivd in a timely manner via UPS an the box appeared in good condition. We opened it up and hooked it up and nothing worked, except the little red light. The DVD/CD player door did not even open and we could not get any radio stations. We thought, okay, let's send it back and get a replacement. A replacement came right away and the UPS people picked up the defective one promptly. The second one did not work any better and so we sent it back and requested our money back. The best thing about this whole ordeal was that Amazon.com took it back, arranged for the item to be picked up, sent a replacement before they got the defective one back, and when the second one was also defective, they arranged for the second one to pomptly be picked up and refunded our money fast. I certainly will order from Amazon.Com again.

Very Pleased....

by JoeGiants from on 2010-09-04
I am very happy with this purchase. The price, the quality, the ease of set-up,more then what I had expected.I am more then pleased with this product and recommend it to anyone trying to improve their home theater experience at a price they can afford.

Despite the price, not worth it.

by Corn Eater from on 2010-09-01
I understand that these are really cheap speakers. I wasn't expecting much in terms of quality. But to be honest, I was really disappointed with how awful they performed. These are cheapest looking pieces of junk i've ever seen. The subwoofer didn't work and when i moved it you could hear pieces of junk rattling inside of it and the packaging wasn't damaged at all, so it's not as though this could have been blamed on shipping.even disregarding the broken subwoofer, the quality was abysmal. If you have a shelf system or even a boombox you're better off using that to increase the volume of your TV. I wouldn't even recommend this to people who don't care about quality and just want their tv louder.you may think you don't really care about quality, but when you hear how awful these sound, you will understand that there is a bare minimum amount of quality that is even tolerable.

Pure garbage

I bought a ten dollar speaker that works better than this. The worst purchase I've ever made.

You get what you pay for

by Jessica Petrohoy from Allentown, PA USA on 2010-08-23
We purchased this speaker system for our 42" Philips television. It was 40 dollars so we that we were getting a good deal, however we didn't expect much since it was so cheap. It arrived promptly and we set it up. Set up was not too difficult but the speakers only came with a small booklet. Without a receiver (a DVD player with volume control, stereo head), we had to get up to change the volume knob. Finally our problems were solved when we bought a cheap cd player/radio/aux player for another 39 dollars which had a remote. Now we can change volume with ease all for 79 dollars. Still cheaper than some of the cheapest home entertainment systems -- and the sound quality is sufficient. This product is a classic, "you get what you pay for".

Coby CSP96 300 Watt 5.1 Channel Home Theatre Speaker System

by W.Harvell from on 2010-08-09
I recently bought this Coby speaker system and for the price I paid, it's well worth it. We had recently upgraded to a DVR and for some reason it cut the sound of our television down so low until we couldn't hear it if we had our ac running. Since we weren't financially able to buy a higher prices speaker system, I had searched and found this one and it works really good but sometimes it's not much louder than the tv. But for the amount paid, it's well worth it and at least we can hear the sound when we watch tv or movies. I also got free shipping at Amazon.com so that made it even better. One thing to think about though, you need to check your television and DVD/VHS player to see if it will connect. Luckily it connected to my DVD player, but not to my television. I suppose if I had a newer tv or DVD player, it would work lots better.

Price was good, not the product

by H. K. Dawuid from NC, USA on 2010-08-23
This is a cheap product, that's why was 60 something dollars. But I didn't want an expensive one either, so it is good over all. The rear speakers didn't work though, from the first time, but i'm gonna wait until my new TV arrives and see if they work then.

Not bad for a $40. system

by K. Eckley from Bay Area, California on 2010-06-14
I purchased this system for $39.00 brand new. Sure, the bass isn't all there, but it does become better when you're watching a movie with lots of bass. The speaker wires are short but you can get more speaker wire to make it work. I liked that all the wires, ( speaker wires ) and ( rca jacks ) are color coded or have tags identifying where each wire plugs into. I think the system sounds okay. You CAN control the volume while watching TV. I don't know what these other reviewers are talking about. Maybe they didn't connect it correctly. There's a switch on the back of the subwoofer that indicates, "TV" "DVD". You must slide it to the appropriate position. Your TV will need a red and white rca OUTPUT for this feature to work. ~common sense~ The remote control is probably the worst thing about it. You have to aim the remote directly at the dvd player and no further than about six feet away. That's the trouble I experienced anyway. Even with new Energizer batteries.

I can't understand people buying this.

by Arrow from on 2010-05-07
I seen this on here and had to comment. How can people waste thier money on a cheap toy like this, then have the nerve to act surprised when they find out Fisher Price makes better product (and would cost more as well). You can't even buy a single speaker that is OK for less than $100; let alone 5, a sub, a DVD player, and an amp. Come on! It use to be such people that purchased things as this were rare, most people wanted something at least descent. But I'm finding these days that people really have no standards when it comes to audio/video anymore. As long as it makes noise and has colors on a screen, people will say it sounds & looks good to them?!?! It simply blows my mind. Somewhere out there, people have purchased this same setup and probably think it's great. If you can't afford to get something at least descent, why would you buy anything at all. Save your money. It's called 'doing without'.

Warning: Do NOT buy!!

by Player from Pittsburgh on 2010-03-08
This is the worst DVD home theater system I ever bought. It stopped working less than a month after I bought it!The wires are EXTREMELY short. They didn't even reach half way across my 15 foot room. The power cord is really short. The volume is horrible. The only way I could use it is with the volume maxed and it still wasn't enough. No kidding! The remote only works from a distance if the player is on the floor because of the angle they installed the IR detector. I installed mine in my TV cabinet and would have to stand up, stretching my arm up as high as I could to get it to work from across the room.Trash!

Total Junk

by Tommy L. Gaskill from on 2010-03-06
I do not recommend this product to anyone. Only played one DVD correctly. When playing the second DVD the system kept cutting off. In addition, sound quality was poor, when this item arrived a couple of the speaker bases were broken. Save yourself some trouble, do not buy this item. Last note, I should have read other peoples comments before I made this purchase, could have saved myself some problems.

NOTHING like the picture depicts

by My Pen Name Here from Dallas-area, TX on 2010-02-10
Even though the seller does state that the product pictured is not the actual product, it is COMPLETELY different from what it pictured. It's more of a portable dvd player than a home version. Certainly nothing I would purchase to be used in my home. The product pictured is of a more traditional home DVD player. I expected at least a home DVD player, but this one hails in comparison to home DVD player. Sure, the price was right, for a home DVD player. For this portable-ish dvd player, I never would have gotten it. And, it's not even that portable, in that it only accepts 110 volt AC. Not even a 12-volt DC option to put in a vehicle. I could live with it if this were the case. I bought this unti to send to my Dad, and it was over a month before I made the 550 mile trip to see him, by that time it was too late to return. So, it sits on teh corner collecting dust. A home DVD player was purchased in place of this one. Very, very, VERY disappointed in this product! How difficult would it be to get a photo of the actual unit being purchased? Of course, had I seen an actual photo, I wouldn't have purchased this one. But I would have purchased what was really needed. And maybe from the same company. SO, buyer beware of buying anything from this place. You'll certainly not get anything close to what the photo suggests.

Very limited capabilities

by lyle J Kellman from DC Metro on 2009-06-14
For the money the system is not bad and is still working. The largest challenge is that, one can only adjust the sound of the unit on the bass subwoofer. There is no way to get the system to integrate with the remote for the DVD player or my TV. Also this is actually 2 systems and each works indepentdently. The sound is better than the staright TV but the above challenges do not make it worth the purchase. At least the system was not that expensive and I only wasted a little money, but a waste non the less.

dvd home theater

I love this thing, I have a small office, and the audio from the tv , just doesn't cut it , this system wont change your life, but if you have a small room , you cant beat the price.

Good value!

by David Barnes from Chattanooga, TN on 2009-04-30
I just got this item two (2) days ago to replace a broken 5.1 system. I thought that the price was too good to pass up. For roughly $60 I have a system that I am very happy with. It has all of the remote control abilities that the expensive units have and has surprisingly good sound and video quality. If you are looking for a low-priced system I would recommend it. The shipping was extremely quick as well.

Great until it works

by marco from Chicago, IL United States on 2010-08-31
I agree with other reviewers: this product is a great idea poorly executed. As new it has a good sound quality and I love its portability, but it is not surviving a year of gentle use. About 10 months after its purchase it started to produce a humming sound when operated while plugged to the power. The noise covers soft music and is annoying during silences. Batteries degrade over time but I was not expecting the amplifier electronics to break in such a short time. I can still charge it and use it while working on the battery but it will not be possible to use us for log lasting indoor events, charge duration diminishes over time and the problem is going only to get worse. Furthermore the battery is not easy to replace. Probably ION is aware of the unreliability of its products since it provides only 90days warranty and makes customer support difficult to reach. Their toll free number is 1 888 8000681. The first time I called I waited 45min to be sent to a voice mailbox. The second time I called they gave some trivial and ineffective troubleshooting suggestions and referred me to a repair shop in NJ (I'm in Chicago).

Battery Life is dismal

by D &S from Iowa from on 2010-08-29
We bought the Ion Block Rocker in June 2009 to play music from an iPod as we sat outside on our patio. We used it 3 times last summer, storing it inside in our home between uses. I pulled it out and charged it up overnight to used today (08-2010) and nothing... It works when plugged into 110, but it will not run on battery. I get a few pops and hisses. If I plug it into the wall, it works fine. In reading the Ion website, it does discuss the lead-acid battery, and it does say that if you do not use the battery for six months, it may not work again! That appears to be my circumstance. Sooo.. if you want a high maintenance/finicky product, this is the unit. If you use it every week, it may last a long time. If, as in my case, you use it seasonally, and it sits for a length of time... be aware of the consequences!!! So, I am out looking for other option to replace this lead-acisd battery door stop.

Do not purchase replacement battery from Ion

by Dawn from on 2010-08-26
Product worked great for about 9 months until the battery died and would not recharge. When I called to get a replacement battery, it was almost as much as the block rocker itself, so instead of ordering one, I went to my local Batteries Plus and not only did they have a replacment battery but it was a 1/4 of the price. Unsure of how the battery went it, we found it was actually more time consuming that difficult. Remove the screws on the front as well as top, take off front piece of stereo, remove speaker and battery goes right in. After replacing the battery and putting it back together, the block rocker is running great again.

Wonderful system, very pleased

High Quality sound and portable

by Benjamin L. from on 2010-08-03
It would be nice if it came with some kind of a protective cover and a way to keep cords attached to the unit but we managed. It has a great output for sound even if not using an I-Pod. Would definitely recommend it for activites that require music and/or being a D.J. or when you have to interact with an audience. Also got a great deal with shipping via Amazon:) This was a great item we needed it quickly for the kareoke. It arrived safely packed and quickly. Easy to use and transport. Compact and not too heavy for even the kids to pack around.

Get Less Than What You Pay For

by J. Blair from on 2010-07-06
The instructions for this product are terrible and make little or no sense. The "chapters" follow no logic and it was written by someone who does not speak fluent English as seen by the multiple spelling and grammar mistakes.Though I was able to get the basic features to work with this alarm, I was not able to program the phone features. You cannot remotely access the alarm by phone if you have a home answering machine. On two occations the alarm went off for no reason(not armed) most likely due to radio frequency interference. The entire unite shuts off without an alarm sounding if you simply unplug it from the wall, so I am not sure why it has rechargable batteries.Nobody answers the toll free customer service number and they have yet to respond to my voicemail.

not an easy setup but...

by me from wrentham, MA on 2010-06-23
ok so its not a 1-2-3 your done setup you must read the manual 2 or even 3 times once you do get it,its a snap to setup!only took me an hour to get very thing going i mean its not the best one out there but the best one for the price i think. dose what i want it to do protech my home and gives me a little peace of mind, the system is loud when it dose go off and i like the fact it calls people(btw that works really well) so anyway if your looking for a home alarm with out breaking the bank this is the system for you

Effective Sensor

by J. Graganta from North West on 2010-06-07
The PIR sensor works very well. It scans every five seconds reacts very quickly. I ordered extra sensors to compliment the Air Alarm kit I ordered. The adjustability of the mounting makes it easy to aim once a mounting location is chosen. Of the three sensors, there is one that appears to have one undesirable trait. I'm unsure if it is unique to that sensor or if it is because it is in a high traffic location or bad luck with 9V batteries. The PIR scans every five seconds according the manual and when it detects movement, it glows red. The sensor in question has used three 9V batteries since it was mounted. The original battery did not last very long and I assumed it was because it was a no name battery included with the unit. The second lasted 3 months and it did not glow "white" when the battery is low according to the manual. The red LED simply would was not as bright as normal (it was a 9V that I had, but tested "good" with the battery tester before installed- so it could have been just bad luck with two batteries). It is on it's third battery in six months. That is the only issue that has come up since the installation and so far just with one of the three PIR sensors. The Air Alarm and sensors are not even one year old yet, but the PIR does work as stated.

Sensitive and Works Fine

by Wilson A W from Richmond, VA area on 2010-01-24
I have several of these and they do what they are supposed to do. Have had them in use for a couple of weeks and they are sensitive, respond immediately and work just fine. The set-up was not difficult and placement is very flexible.

Important Product Information: This device features a "screen lock" feature. This is a standard feature on all nüvi 2x5 and 7x5 Garmin units. If you slide the "Power" key to the right, it will lock the screen and prevent any accidental touches. Once the screen lock feature is engaged, the screen will go black/gray after about 15 seconds to save power on the device. To unlock the screen, just slide the "Power" key to the center position. This feature is really targeted for "Pedestrian" mode so that a user can put the device in his or her pocket/purse and quickly unlock the screen instead of powering on/off continuously. Garmin's interface is a key to their success part of what makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and smooth map updates as you navigate. This year, Garmin has redesigned its interface to include much more useful information. Old Interface New Interface HotFix™ – aka: Satellite Ephemeris Data Prediction Your GPS device locks onto transmissions from a dedicated network of Satellites in order to determine its position. Until the device gets a "lock" on three satellites, it can't effectively navigate, so decreasing the time it takes for your device to get "satellite lock" is always a goal of GPS manufacturers. With Garmin's new HotFix technology, your Garmin GPS remembers the position of all satellites it is tracking when you turn it off, and calculates their movements in order to predict where they should be the next time you turn it on. This gives the device an idea of where it should look for satellites, and dramatically decreases the time it takes for your Garmin to get its position and start navigating. HotFix can predict satellite positions for up to 3 days after the device was last turned off. Using Garmin’s unique Web site — Garmin Connect Photos — users can choose from millions of geo-located photos provided by Google’s Panoramio photo sharing community and download them to the nüvi for a richer navigation experience using pictures as a guide. Send Addresses Directly from Google Maps or Mapquest tching to try out a new restaurant, or setting off on a road trip to locate the best toffee apples on the east coast? Now, it's easy to search for locations on Google Maps or Mapquest, then transfer the addresses directly to your Garmin GPS navigator. Hook up your Garmin to the computer via it's USB port Search for the location you want Click the Send link in the info window for the address. That will bring up a popup "Send to" form. Pick GPS, then pick Garmin and hit the "Send" button. The address will instantly transfer to your Garmin device, The point will be saved as one of your favorites, and you can navigate to it or view it on a map just like with any other favorite. The process does require a small plugin, which you can get at Garmin's website at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3739. You can send business addresses to your Garmin device from these countries: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States. Search for the location you want. Pick "Send to GPS". Go! Traffic-Capable for Either FM Traffic or Enhanced MSN Direct Content FM Traffic With an optional receiver, you can get alerts from TMC Clear Channel about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time. In most areas, TMC Clear Channel traffic broadcasts are continuous — there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions. Widescreen -- See More of What's Around The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push. Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen Where Am I? On any nüvi (including this one), you can just tap "Where Am I?" to find the closest hospitals, police stations, fuel stations, nearest address and intersection. Also see your exact latitude and longitude coordinates. First-Rate Map Data nüvi accepts custom points of interest (POIs). View larger. GREAT!!!!!!!!

by connie from on 2010-09-06
I had one before that was not easy to use . I am so happy to have gotten this one . It has a bigger screen and is easy to read . I like the voice directions letting you know where to turn with out looking at the screen . I like the way it tells you to make a left and then lets you know what way you will be turning next allowing you to get in the right lane to make your turn .

Garmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator

by ROMEPOWER from Peabody, MA on 2010-09-06
The best $125,00 I've spent in my life! I was able to travel across country without a single error...and get to my final destination and drive like I lived there for 10 yrs...Every driver should have a Garmin 255W...I don't need all the other stuff like MP3 player..I've already have an iPhone that does it.

It is not refurbished

by Gokhan Kaya from on 2010-09-06
A short review: It was not really refurbished. I couldn't turned it on or charge it. I tried every possible option but it never showed up. The battery inside had no power. I connected it to the computer and nothing happened. Even with a small amount of power which not died or recently charged batteries typically hold, the computer should have sensed the connection. But it was not the case with this device. So it is certain that, they had re-boxed it without even checking it. Return was easy though. Now, the next person will get it without any refurbishing. It is like ping-pong. Eventually someone will fail to hit the ball and then Amazon wins!

Great! But glitches once in a blue moon

by YTRgg from on 2010-09-06
It's pretty good for the price. It does what it says. But once in a while it will say "RECALCULATING" as if you did something wrong even though you didn't, and that's outside of tunnels or obstructions. Most of the time that's not a big deal once you use common sense. It has a few fun features like a big variety of icons too customize your car icon or destination icon with. Anyway, enjoy!

Handy Remote

by J. Graganta from North West on 2010-06-07
The remote is a very handy way to activate and deactivate the alarm system. This is especially true if the control box is mounted in a location where a PIR or door sensor is mounted and will activate the alarm when trying to get to the controller to deactivate. Range of the remote is adequate (25-30 feet) from the control box through wood walls. The original battery with the remote did not last very long, maybe three months. The battery is an 27A 12V battery & in my area is not common. It is NOT similar to the 23A 12V that is more commonly used (and available) in some devices. The 27A used in the remote is the same length as the 23A, but it is a smaller diameter. The 27A 12V was only available at Radio Shack in my area.
