How to insulate a speaker box?

I have a home made speaker box that sounds excellent. and It is ported. I want to make sure that what I did to insulate it was right.
I placed some acoustic insulation on the top panel, bottom panel, and on the back panel paralell with the port. I fluffed it in. What I am trying to get across is that I did not insulate the entire box.
It sounds great but i was wondering if I could get it to sound better by insulating different or will it not make too much of a difference. thanks.
I have ported with a tube.

If you want the Bass to have a little more punch, and sound "bassier" then go to a craft store and buy pillow stuffing, or quilt stuffing. fit as much as you can in the box. just keep it off the speaker contacts

What is Acoustic Treatment?

What is acoustic treatment? Why may you need an acoustic treatment service? How is it achieved? What are the benefits of it?

In a nutshell, acoustic treatment is the process of treating a room, so that the room achieves optimum sound quality, that is, the best possible sound quality. Acoustic treatments are performed in sound recording studios, home theaters, karaoke rooms, and other rooms in residential homes where the best sound quality is needed.

Acoustic treatment combines elements of soundproofing, noise reduction, controlling and managing sound sources, acoustic set-ups, trapping or dampening sounds, and reducing the echo and reverberation of noise.

To understand more about getting the maximum sound performance in a room, we must first look at what sound is. Sound moves outwardly as a wave, in all directions, from its original source. These waves travel as vibrating pressure undulations interacting with everything in their path. Depending on the nature of the impedance it encounters, a sound wave can be deflected, reflected or even absorbed. In essence, this is what acoustic treatment is; undertaking procedures using specific materials or electrical devices to minimize unwanted or unnecessary sounds.

The need for acoustically treating a particular area or room can depend on lifestyle, legal issues or environmental factors ranging from a operating a home theatre system, to owning a recording studio or even residing close to a major city highway or airport.

With this in mind, it is easy to understand why acoustically insulating a specific region could be desirable. It can minimize the amount of noise pollution entering from an external source, or conversely keep sound contained within a particular area.

Home theatres are an excellent example of this; Bad acoustics will render the surround sound effect of your favorite movies completely lacking in their majesty because the sound will 'leak' out of the room like water through a sieve. Insulating the room not only 'traps' the sound within the confined space, causing the audio reverberate and 'surround' you, but also prevents any external noise entering the room and ruining the ambience of the movie.

There are a variety of materials available which adequately perform the task of acoustic insulator. Some are of course better than others, but there is often a compromise between budget, weight constraints, size constraints and time restrictions. Porous foams and viscoelastic polymers are excellent insulators because they 'deform' under the wave's vibrations, absorbing the mechanical energy and converting it to heat, dissipating said heat within the immediate environment. Denser materials like concrete, brick or steel absorb some of the sound, but due to their density will reflect most of it.

If you are a serious movie watcher or lover of music, acoustic treatment can be of great benefit to your home, and maybe more affordable than you think. It is a tremendous waste, if you've spent a lot of money on the latest and greatest home theater system, only to find that the sound echoes and distorts too much. Life is too short to listen to an inferior quality sound. Many acoustic treatments are available to suit your room size and budget.
