Gyms in schools and churches are often the bustling center of activity, from sporting events to musical performances, guest speakers, social meetings. These wide open spaces, surrounded by hard, reflective surfaces serve many practical purposes, but control of the reverberation of excessive noise is not one of them. When crowds of cheering, applause of spectators gather in gyms for events, waves sound effortless travel around the gym and have an impact beyond the many hard surfaces that do nothing to control sound transmission. The result is an uncomfortable level background noise and the sound unpleasant to the speaker, speaker or music that is really intended for viewers to listen. Screens should not all be placed in parallel with others, as this configuration would allow the transmission of sound reflections that are missed by the deflectors.
